My name is Anthony Lockhart and I am the ONLY Independent candidate for the Gunthorpe ward.
I live on Malvern Road, which means I live in the Gunthorpe ward (unlike the present Lib Dem councillor or other candidates).
I have been married for 6 years, pay my Council Tax and have a daytime job, as a cleaner in a local school (unlike the present Lib Dem councillor).
... The reason why I have decided to stand is because I care about my community on my doorstep. I am fed up of people spending thousands of pounds sending me literature telling me they care about my area, yet live elsewhere in the city?
I mean, I don't really care for the area where they live so why should they care for my patch of Peterborough? Maybe because they think its easy to get elected here?
I decided to get involved after being impressed by the immense work done throughout the year by Cllr Darren Fower and Cllr Julia Davidson, who themselves are now Independent.
Like me, they believe in REAL democracy, REAL action and giving people in this area a REAL voice at the Town Hall!
The bottom line is we NEED more REAL people at the Town Hall, not people in cheap suits, armed with soundbites and zero experience of REAL life!
I don't have a great deal of money, (but always have enough to pay my Cross Keys rent!), but this means instead of sending out pretend personalised letters or countless newsletters, I've spent many weeks, knocking on doors and delivering my message direct to people's front door.
Locally, I want to work alongside Cllr Davidson and Cllr Fower on providing a real solution to speeding cars in the area, poor parking and fly tipping.
I'm presently looking into the idea of setting up an Friends of John Clare rec group, with the aim of improving facilities for young and old people in the area, and I've already put forward ideas on how we can ensure we see more police officers on the beat locally.
At the Council, if elected, I'll push for more affordable housing, greater road safety and support for vulnerable families.
Don't forget that the polling stations are open until 10pm today, and you don't need to take any ID with you, just pop along, state your name and address and then VOTE!
