Anvil Gym. A. brief history of the longest standing original gym left in southport . it all began back in 1970 with Mr Mel Sperrin at the helm based at eastbank street southport. the gym then moved onto mill Lane in the 1980s and then to vulcan street in the mid 80s to 1996. I fire brought vulcan to a close and that's when I came in. I was offered half the business by the then owner, Tony sullivan. we moved the gym to Liverpool Road where Thomas Moore once stood and c...alled it the phoenix. when Thomas moores was closed down to be built on, I then moved the gym on to join new attitude gym at hart street. new attitude had gone into liquidation so I combined the 2 gyms together. after 18 years at hart street we now have a new name and a new address. great old school proper gym ...... needs some heavy metal music tho lol

If you can get past the smell of dog shit and damp in the gym and enjoy using prehistoric equipment then the gym is pretty good . Not been much lately since trapping my nutsack in some wobbly old dumbells
