Wonderful Show with a great cast. Set and costumes were excellent, a great experience.

User

This is the best show you will ever see, if you have never been to the theatre go and see this at the this beautiful theatre. Great service and a professional production that will leave you spellbound

User

Loved the whole experience. I beat the queues for interval drinks by buying a couple of bottles of water beforehand. Costumes, effects and set design were all brilliant. Had good seats from P35 to P38 but for some reason couldn't hear words to many of the songs, chorus and duets...solos seemed better.

User

I’ve been to see Wicked twice here in the past 3 weeks (front row of the stalls) and I’ve had a great experience both times - nice staff, smooth box office ticket pick-up, and very comfortable seats for the west end. LOVE the show and I find the sound quality to be particularly good.

User

It was absolutly amazing. The singing and the performance were outstanding.

I just feel a little sorry for the people that have never seen the Wizard of OZ, they won't get all the little hints . But to say it again. We loved it.

I used to sleep on the steps of the Apollo Theatre as a 13 year old runaway teenager as mentioned in my book, and I can tell you that the steps are always really clean and it's a great place to sleep if it's raining as you only get wet if you're on the front steps.

Across the road are plenty of places to eat and drink and it's less than half a minutes walk from the train station.

I've not actually been inside to see a show or anything, but it's a great place to crash if you're destitute and can find some spare cardboard nearby. 5 stars.

User

We really enjoyed the show, but the first 10 mins were ruined by the staff (we were seated behind a walkway upstairs) bringing late customers in across in front of us for a solid 10 mins.It was impossible to hear or watch. Every other theatre we go to has a strict late comers will not be admitted until suitable break, & what's with customers geting up & disappearing to come back with pints & popcorn!!!!! during the performance? Am I now in a cinema? Please have some regard for those around you. The show & the actors fantasic,(the staff & customers running around, pretty naff).

User

Got good seats but think to near front

User

You have a Wickedly warm air conditioning system. Pls fix it. Your audience is using their tickets to fan themselves, not even your top notch crew is able to save the day.

This is a review of the theatre experience here not the show (which was superb). The theatre itself was fine but the drinks! OMG even for London prices! £10.30 for a glass of wine in the foyer! In a plastic pint pot! The worst thing was that the drinks in the theatre are a different price than the drinks on entry as there are 2 separate companies providing them. The drinks inside and at the interval are cheaper so if you want a drink don't buy it in the foyer. I am not a regular theatre goer and if this is the usual thing I am shocked! I am not a tight person but being ripped off after already paying over £200 for tickets was very annoying!

I have never given such a review publicly in my life, but I feel so strongly about this that I feel it should be addressed. We attended a performance of Wicked on the evening of August 2. The show itself was of course fantastic, but I am still aghast at the etiquette shown by people at the theatre, and the lack of effort from the Apollo to address this appropriately. It began when we got there - there was a line up and around the block for people simply to enter, even with tickets, which did not even START moving until 7:15. The theatre apologized for this, but as we didn't even get into the theatre until about 3 minutes before the show started (along with everyone else) it was hectic and stressful and there were absolutely no ushers directing people to seats or that I could even find to be helpful.

We unfortunately sat behind what appears to have been a group of teens with a tour group. As soon as the show started the several teens in front of us talked very loudly; I asked the usher to ask them to be quiet, and I appreciate that she did this immediately. However, they did not stop. The usher came to them FOUR different times to remind them to stop talking. They never did. They talked in full voices and kept taking pictures with their I-Watches during the show. They would look to make sure an usher wasn't close before they did this and start talking again. I am aware the theatre cannot help people talking, but it can enforce policies to make people leave when they don't. I think being asked four times to stop talking is 2 times too many - after the second time, they should have been told it was done.

What was most absolutely shocking to me was the movement during the show. I actually began to count. I counted no less than 40 people, within my section, who stood and left and came back DURING the performance. I have never in my life seen such a thing in a theatre. I do not understand why they were told they could not return until the intermission. This was beyond distracting. The saddest moment for me was when three people stood up in front of us during the CLIMAX at the end of the first act. They stood in front of us, blocked our view, got their bags, talked...It totally ruined the moment.

The ushers were clearly overworked, and unfortunately they were moving just as much as everyone else. I think I saw an usher rush up and down my aisle at least a dozen times. This was also incredibly distracting.

The final straw was when the show ended and people started leaving and walking around even before the curtain call started. Never seen anything like it. Where were the ushers to stop this ? I felt terrible for the actors.

I can't help but wonder if this was an unusual night in some way - I hope it was. But I would expect better etiquette enforcement from a theatre of this caliber.

it was so bad that when a group of friends were deciding what show to attend the following week in the West End, I discouraged them from seeing Wicked. I could not in good conscience send them to see a show where the audience was allowed to be so disrespectful.

I think a part of the issue was that there were a number of large tour groups, including many with teenagers (like the group in front of me) who did not seem to know what is expected. This problem could easily be addressed by announcing theatre etiquette at the beginning of the night for those who might not know it. Further, enforcement for movement during the show must be put in place. I saw 2 teenage girls get up and leave 3 different times. There is absolutely no need for this. Perhaps tour groups booking large blocks of tickets could also be sent a list of etiquette practices that could be read to the group in their own language before they enter.

More ushers, firmer policies. This is only fair to the actors and those who have paid good money to enjoy the magic of theatre.

I can't fault the musical it was outstanding. Great casting and the live band is truly exceptional.

Venue is very dated. Seats and layout no great at all. Bouncer at the door extremely rude. Staff weren't very welcoming. Could do a lot better with a refurbishment. Be prepared to queue for a long period for seating and toilets.

I wouldn't go there again.

I came to London with my 12 year old my experience was not good, we had 2 guys sat directly in front of us who were very tall blocking my daughters view so at the interval I complained to the manager who was great and advised I could sit in an empty seat so we choose the balcony seat not knowing it blocks the view if sat back in seat so we both had to lean forward so was a uncomfortable experience however the show wicked was amazing just would have been more enjoyable if we were comfortable lessons learned cheap tickets ain't great

This is the first negative review I have ever had to put on Facebook. We have been quite lucky so far in that where we have had issues with a service, providers have tended to bend over backwards to make things right, but unfortunately this was not case with the Apollo Victoria Theatre whereby we were treated in an awful way by the staff. Even having discussed with management they had no interest in making things right! I can see reading past reviews reporting the same issues that the theatre is clearly ignoring the feedback from customers...

We arrived 2mins late, having found out there were two Apollo theatres and went to the wrong one initially, sounds crazy I know but the other 20 or so people we were huddled together with when we got there had made the same error. An easier one to fix...

On arrival our tickets were taken off us and then we were told it would be at least 25 minutes before we would be allowed in to avoid any disruption to the show. Now I’m all for being sensitive to others and picking the right time to get seated but 25 minutes is a ludicrous time to wait. Rather than at least letting us stand at the back of the theatre they instead herded us together like animals and told us we would have to watch the performance on a tiny television in the foyer along with the rest of the late comers (approx. 20 of us in all). Problem here was the tv is tiny and the picture quality was awful and blurred. So you could not make out any characters so had no idea what was going on. If you are going to make people watch it on a tv then at least make it viewable. It really was unacceptable. An easy one to fix if they wanted to...

What’s more there was very little air conditioning so people were sweating buckets. An offer of a cool refreshment maybe...

About 10mins in we had had enough and asked to speak to the manager. We had not paid all this money to be treated like a group of animals. After 5 or so minutes there was no sign of the manager so asked again. I think they were hoping we would have been taken in by the time he came out. So I asked again and eventually after about 10 minutes someone came out. Not Mr Peck the Duty Manager but Brendon Hopkins his Senior Assistant. We explained how unacceptable a 25 minute wait was under those conditions with no way of reasonably following the show but he showed no concern or offer to sort out the situation or make the waiting period more comfortable. I asked for my money back as this was unacceptable and not the experience I had paid for but he refused.

Having asked him if in our situation he would be happy with the way we were being treated, he was lost for words, stuttering as I asked.

We could see in his face that he clearly had no desire to help us so we asked to speak to the duty manager but was told it was pointless as we would get the same response.

At this point people were being herded into the theatre. Clearly not getting anywhere with the supervisor we took our tickets from the usher and went in, in an attempt to salvage what was left of the performance. Now....expecting it to be a natural transition between scenes I was shocked to find that we were ushered into the theatre right in the middle of a musical number. Seriously...after all the talk of making this as less disruptive as possible you take a group of 20+ people in together right in the middle of a number! Clearly causing a disruption to most of the people in the auditorium. To make matters worse we were left to find our own seat which given it was dark we had no idea where we were going. In the end we sat where we could to genuinely avoid disrupting the audience any longer.

Nothing against the performance but given the inadequate way in which the situation was handled leading up to us finally being seated we have no idea what the first half was about.

I am going to push this out to social media. If Mr Peck and Mr Hopkins are going to do nothing about it then at least people can make up their own minds about this theatre and it’s staff. This day and age this sort of thing should never happen. So easy to turn these sort of things around, but carry on and Karma will prevail at some point I’m sure!

The staff in this theatre are outrageously rude. Was waiting at the bar for 25 minutes stood there right next to the till why the man on there who I will be making a formal complaint about only served the people who had like 4 or more people with them, I was only with one other person. We were stood there for 25 minutes at the bar front and he totally ignored us. And I said why aren’t you serving us and he laughed and said ‘you haven’t been here 25 minutes, leave and then laughed and looked at me horribly. This is disgusting!!! Will be making a formal complaint as I should not be made to feel like scum when coming to watch a west end show, he is no better then me. I’m a lot better because I’m not a rude obnoxious person. Wicked is a great show but damn Apollo you’re ruining it with your ignorant rude and horrible staff! Will not be returning!

User

Less than 5 minutes late and had to wait a another 25 to get to our seats, no leeway for customers who are not familiar with travel around London. Staff unhelpful and ‘TV’ screen to watch while waiting is too poor a quality to watch. NEVER AGAIN

User

Hello there,

I would like to bring something to your attention.

I visited the theatre today Saturday 3rd February to watch the matinee show of Wicked along with 3 of my friends as a birthday gift

The problem was being of partial hearing and wearing a hearing aid the sound quality was so poor I did not hear a single word that was said or sung I tried the loop switch in my hearing aid and it made no difference my friends said they struggled to make out some of what the performers were saying at times

I brought this to the attention of the box office staff during the interval who suggested I contact you

I feel I have paid a lot of money to watch a show I was looking forward to seeing but left very disappointed that I could not enjoy it

I was sat in the stalls seats F 3/4/5/6

I await your reply

User

From row X the sound was very poor. I had seen the musical from the first rows already and everything was perfect. The acustics did not do justice at all to the musical which is a real shame. Get front row seats or get discounted tickets for the back of the hall but be prepared to enjoy the scenery more than the music or the dialogues

User

Awful show. Did not see a thing from my seat. No sound or atmosphere at all! Oh wait.....@Ticketmaster never let me change my booking to when i'm actually in London in January!!

Best £145 ive ever spent!

My girlfriend will be so pleased to open her tickets on Christmas to find the show was 2 days ago.

Customer service is a complete joke.
