About Applecartlive

Applecart is a storytelling initiative committed to finding innovative ways of exploring both new and existing stories which have the ability to unite, inspire and strengthen communities. Formed by Peter Moreton, an actor, writer and composer and Phil Summers a storyteller and an artist, Applecart began by exploring classical texts. Their aim was to release these classic works of literature from the shackles of their original constraints and reveal their social-political nature, as well as their humour and warmth. Applecart produces live theatre shows touring nationally attracting a diverse and mixed audience. Applecart also creates site specific performances where the story of the place is as important as the story itself as well as short films, storytelling workshops and masterclasses. Applecart also manages the Old School Room – an old Victorian school house, which now hosts exhibitions and events designed to engage with the community and facilitate a creative hub in Mile End. The ambition of the Old School Room is to connect creativity with community by providing space for artists and creatives, offering a platform for diverse events all while increasing environmental awareness. The main focus of the Old School Room is built on these three strands – community, creativity and environment – working in the broadest sense of those terms and linking them all together.
