About Armada Marine Robotics

Conventional uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs) are propelled by symmetrical multi-bladed propellers and steered using fins or an articulated thruster. Asymmetric Propulsion works by actively varying the rotational speed of a single-bladed propeller, providing both thrust and steering control from a single motor while simultaneously improving low-speed maneuverability. Eliminating the need for fins and additional motors reduces weight, drag, manufacturing complexity, and cost, all while creating a more robust, efficient, and capable system. ARMADA Marine Robotics is collaborating with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) to develop Asymmetric Propulsion technology for UUV applications. The thruster ARMADA is bringing to market will enable UUVs to conduct rapid large area surveys as well as low-speed inspections and station keeping with a high degree of maneuverability not available from existing platforms.
