We spent our 1st wedding anniversary at Armathwaite Hotel and Spa last Sunday and it was absolutely incredible. The hotel staff were impeccable and treated us like their only guests We arranged for spa treatments during our stay and left completely relaxed and only wish we could of stayed longer. The only bad comment we have was that the staff at the spa lacked a bit of communication and left us waiting around and did not show us around the hydro pool facilities etc. As first timers we felt a bit out place, but we were extremely impressed with the overall experience and will definitely go back in a heart beat.

User

We only used the Spa, but what a fabulous place! We booked in for a 4 hour escape day and enjoyed every minute. I opted for a back and neck massage and paid extra for a facial. My therapist was called Helen and she was really lovely and certainly made me feel relaxed after the treatment. The facilities are very well kept and spotless. Not at any point overcrowded or noisy. Everything was fabulous to use, particularly liked the steam room with the lovely piece of amethyst. All the staff were friendly and polite and helpful in anyway. Would definitely return next time we are on holiday- possibly try the afternoon tea! See you soon and thank you for the lovely experience.

User

We have just had an amazing stay at the armathwaite and were complimentary upgraded to room 137! The room was amazing, sunken bath, huge room and castle steps to a beautiful decked area of the roof, and the lady that checked us in and showed us to our room was very kind and very nice.

Thank you so much, definitely a stay we will remember.

Visited here with my sister two days ago. Had a really enjoyable time. Afternoon tea afterwards was lovely, especially as I am gluten free. Thank you so much😊

User

Visited for afternoon tea given as a ‘Virgin experience’ voucher. Stunning is the word to use when describing the hotel, location, the grounds of the hotel and the view over Bassenthwaite lake.

The afternoon tea was an absolute delight and must rank as one of our best ones we have had to date. Staff were polite even giving us a quick guided tour of the venue. And for the couple of cakes my wife couldn’t manage to finish they happily boxed them up for us to take with us,

Even dreamed of booking a night there ( maybe one day)

User

This is my first stay and it was exceptionally good. From the moment I arrived to the moment I leave and services are great. The foods are so good, even when I am not very easily impressed I found almost every dishes are well above my expectation. Only shame was I couldn’t dine in the main dinning room as I wasn’t packed for the dress code required.

User

The service is excellent: attentive without being fussy, everyone pleasant & helpful with gsh too. The food was excellent - unusual choices which turned out to be delicious & you don't feel stuffed at the end, just nicely full. It was good to sit there afterwards drinking coffee & enjoying the view. The place is lovely - a perfect place for Mum's 92nd birthday. We won't be leaving it a year till we go again.

User

My husband and I visited armathwaite for a 2 night stay for our anniversary from the moment we arrived the staff were wonderful with us we started by having afternoon tea which was delicious and very plentiful, then we were taken to our room which was unbelievably beautiful. That evening we ate in the lake view restaurant the food was fabulous, not only the taste but the presentation too well worth the price, in all our stay at armathwaite hall was memorable in every way even the cocktails thankyou to the chef and every one of the staff x

User

Love this place; married here 5 years ago and have just arrived back home after another wonderful 2 night stay; it’s still so special and magical. The staff deserve so much credit and appreciation; always attentive and ensure your stay is perfect. Forever professional, they always smile and can deal with anything thrown their way - especially some other tricky guest behaviours. Stunningly beautiful - missing Armathwaite already xx

User

Just returned from an over night stay at the Armathwaite Hotel and can honestly say the whole experience from start to finish was amazing. Staff were all very polite & helpful & the hotel itself is stunning. Had a very relaxing time & will definitely be back.

User

I went for afternoon tea today for my birthday with my family. In a stunning setting overlooking the lake by far the best afternoon tea we have ever had (we have had a few!). The service was outstanding and the food divine. Worth every penny. Thoroughly recommended

User

I have visited my friends in West Cumbria for many years, but first time visit to Armathwaite Hall Hotel, we had afternoon tea and it was delicious, very friendly and attentive service, and reasonably price, hopefully will be back for another visit....thank you for a lovely afternoon on 25/06/2018

User

Fabulous! What a setting! We stayed in the old part of the house with a view of the park. It was so quiet. Just the girgling sound of birds early in the morning. Loved the spa as well. And the dinner at the brasserie was superb. The attention to detail and excellent customer service made it for a very memorable experience. Thank you.

User

A Birthday treat for my sister yesterday ! Afternoon tea! We had a friendly welcome at reception and were shown into the conservatory to our table by a very friendly waiter! Tea was delicious and the setting and views just beautiful! We enjoyed a drink outside afterwards then a relax in one of the lounges! A truly delightful experience! Many Thanks!

User

Had a wonderful 2 night stay, breakfast and dinner were amazing. Beautiful scenery. Restaurant and bar staff exceptional. Pool and facilities excellent, but got very busy with parties on the Thursday. I had been given a gift card on arrival to have a treatment but unfortunately they only had one spot at 10am, which was to close after breakfast as it was fully booked, so book well in advance. Luckily the Gift card covered anywhere in hotel, so paid for extras using it.

User

Beautiful location. Spa pool area very good. Menu could be more varied, perhaps more pasta dish and fish options but the afternoon tea was really lovely. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

User

Useless and unwelcoming staff. Called to book a lunch for my birthday with friends, was told no booking required. Came on my birthday with friends, venue was booked for a wedding and we were offered only some dark room at the backyard. Asked for breakfast, waited 30 min and no one bothered to bring la carta. Birthday spoiled.

User

Such a shame that a beautiful Hall and immaculate grounds are ruined by the utter incompetence of a few members of staff! We were made to feel unwelcome and uncomfortable on many occasions, and, after detailing the problems we’d experienced via email and the feedback form, no one has even bothered to acknowledge me, let alone apologise. A trifle disappointing from such a promising place.

User

I am extremely disappointed by this hotel.

I was super excited to stay there but it is a proper let down.

Good things:

- lovely and professional staff: at least the majority of them

- beautiful views and grounds

- alright fitness room

- nice pool and hot tub

Bad things:

- awful iron and ironing board (the original in the room had a burnt mark, asked for a different one and that came with scratches)

- awful hair dryer

- catastrophically bad tv (5 grainy, orange channels in an ancient thick tv)

- uncomfortable lumpy mattress

- spider webs everywhere

- coffee cup ringlets in the table in the room (makes it look like it hasn’t been cleaned)

- no plugs next to bed (when moved bedside table to plug in mobile instead of ugly lamp, the dust and dirt behind it was so bad I changed my mind and didn’t want to touch it)

- no safe

- no fridge

- no airconditioning

- frail, dated, scratched, old furniture

- scratched cutlery in the main restaurant

- oily food, very limited options to choose from

I don’t know if all rooms are like this or maybe that bad old ones are saved for business travellers but my impression of this place is very bad.
