Director Nick, caught on video at a film premier, within 24 hours of landing in India! Nick says 'I was attending the Premier of His Father's Voice in Mumbai while finishing off some research on the many opportunities available in India for our forthcoming six week gap year course, launching January 2021.
With the news that Tate Modern is to show Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Room in a year-long exhibition marking it's 20th anniversary, read WePresent's article investigating her life from an unhappy childhood, through the discovery of fashion as a vehicle to the superstar status of today. And she's another artist who says she maintains her mental health through her art. https://buff.ly/2VZh3ba
You could WIN a place on our wonderful 2-week student Summer Courses around Italy. We encourage our students to sketch often because it hones their observational skills and as we teach in small groups in a discursive style, we find that one student's observation will spark ideas for someone else. So we're delighted to read this article from the Harvard Graduate School of Education which promotes 'slow looking', pointing out that it is the perfect antidote to 21st century attention-span decline.

If you missed last night's BBC R4's Front Row, listen again to hear about Raphael's Sistine tapestries, on show this week only and enjoy the art history limericks. It begins with this 'Introduction to Art History': Art starts, as far as we know Not in the caves of Lascaux But with stencils of hands In all habited lands... Homo sapiens, saying hello!

Congratulations to Amber Bardell on this wonderful (and fascinating) review of her debut documentary 'Art as Catharsis'. Amber won the AHA-sponsored Spoke Competition Spoke Competition art documentary prize a few years ago and she has clearly gone from strength to strength. She says she made the film to 'inspire more people to be creative to improve their wellbeing no matter their skills or background' and to that end, she is crowdfunding to enter the film for some festivals - see her page for more details.

Read our new blogpost, a less than saccharine look at kisses in art. It's not all about hearts and teddy bears. Happy Valentine's Day, wherever you are, and remember that the best thing to fall in love with might just be art itself.
If you've been to Rome you'll have seen the nasoni but do you know what they are and how to use them? Translated as 'big nose', there are over 2,500 of these drinking fountains in the city and most visitors don't realise that the water is safe to drink - it's the same as the water in the taps.
As a travel company we always encourage our students to carry a water bottle and in Rome, you'd be mad not to - the water is clean, cool and deliciously thirst-quenching on a hot summer day. Look out for the 3 foot high cast iron nasoni, stamped S.P.Q.R. (it stands for Senātus Populusque Rōmānus, the Roman Senate and People) - but if you can't find one there's a free app, called I Nasoni de Roma!
Congratulations to tutor Andy Stewart MacKay who has just had his book 'The Story of Pop Art' published. It explores how and why Pop Art remains relevant - and what it can tell us about the culture of today. The perfect Valentine's present for your art-loving lover?
What to watch tonight as the storm abates? This play about the trial of Artemisia Gentileschi which won Winners of the Fringe First Award 2018, Winners of The Stage Award for Acting Excellence 2018 and Untapped Award Winner 2018. Thanks to alumni Bryony Allen for tipping us off!
The fight save Derek Jarman's cottage and wonderful shingle garden for the nation, orchestrated by Art Fund has had a huge boost. The costume designer, Sandy Powell, who first worked with Jarman on the film 'Caravaggio', decided to wear a white suit (sustainably, actually a toile from an earlier suit) to the Bafta nominations in London. She brought a pen, got over 100 signatures and the suit will now be auctioned by the Art Fund. So far, half of the £3.5m has been raised.

We can’t get enough of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. One of the most impressive feats of curation that we’ve encountered. We returned yesterday with @enroutegapyear and here’s one of our top pics from the gallery: Uphold Your Men - Carolyn Mims Lawrence, 1971. #africobra #blackhistorymonth #smithsonian #carolynmimslawrence #dc #arthistory #painting #nmaahc #smithsonian #artist #femaleartist — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/31zTWUh
