Couldn’t spot any eels at the Artecology eel pass today, but it all looked rather beautiful anyway. This is what we mean when we talk about creating a new grammar of ornament that speaks to people and wildlife equally. Ecologically functional engineering giving nature a lift when manmade interventions stand in its way! http://www.artecology.space/eelpass
Let’s bring home the win!
#Skatepark #habitat for solitary #bees and #teenagers. Time for wild neighbours to coexist.
One thing us humans have in common with our #wildlife neighbours is a love of sunbathing. Butterflies, reptiles & blackbirds all love to soak up the rays on a nice warm sunny day. On our #Nature #PlaySpace ‘Basking Rocks’ people and wildlife can enjoy the sun side by side.

120 million years of wildlife is the subject of our latest living #Nature #PlaySpace project. Sculpted boulders featuring handmade #ammonite fossils provide basking, sitting, displaying and playing habitat for #wildlife and #humans alike. Big thanks to @WightBuildingMaterialsLTD for designing and delivering the bespoke cementitious sculpting medium. Nice one Ash too!
....aaaaaand from terrestrial #ecological enhancement back to #marine again! #RainStopsPlay outside so it’s back to the studio to get another order of ‘Compton’ model #Vertipools for @ecostructure_ underway! #Concrete #seadefence #greeninfrastructure #ecoengineering #rockpool
Today was installation day. Lots of habitat created with the installation of some way markers. BioTotem, interpretation that speaks to people and wildlife equally!
We’ve had a busy couple of weeks designing and making our brand new bioactive way-marker system called BioTotem. Ten units are now complete and ready to be installed at the Arc Woodland in Ryde Isle of Wight. The BioTotem in the photos is a one-off kingfisher model that features designed in slots for removable/replaceable kingfisher fishing perches. This one will be heading to a river bank not far from our studio in Sandown Bay.
..and one more #BioTotem, this one emblazoned with a #WaterScorpion icon, makes ten BioTotems all together! 150 colonisable holes in each post. #Oak and #Larch timber #waymarkers with built in #ecological fuctionality .....and a bit of #pyrography thrown in too!
Today’s BioTotem making shenanigans......two more to go then installation on site at the Arc Woodland in Ryde, Isle of Wight.

Photos of the making process of BioTotem. A brand new product by Artecology. Creating homes for pollinators that double as sculptural works of art and/or way markers.
BioTotem is our latest product to combine #art & #science, #ecology & #interpretation. BioTotem is a sculptural way-marker that doubles as a high-rise home for #pollinators. #DesignForLife
