Arthur Rank Hospice Charity Description

Arthur Rank Hospice supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or a life-limiting condition and those who need end-of-life care. Its care and services, which have been recognised as outstanding, are provided free of charge to patients and their families. The aim is to provide the highest quality care, helping to make every moment count.

More than 4, 000 patients are cared for each year at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.

Alongside the care provided by Inpatient Unit, Day Therapy and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support (including counselling, bereavement and spiritual support); lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team.

Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer. Depending on need, length of support can vary from a matter of hours to a period of years and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.

As experts in their field, the Hospice is passionate about sharing its specialist knowledge and continuing to raise the standard of palliative and end-of-life care across the region. It runs a variety of courses for healthcare professionals and care home staff to share best practice.

It will cost £8. 66 million this financial year to operate services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. £4. 68 million (54% ) has been budgeted from contracts with the NHS and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). A further £3. 98 million (46% ) needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the dedication, commitment and generosity they show towards meeting this target.

On the back of a very successful plea for mens shower gel (thanks to all who donated) we are now running low on women's shower gel, soap, deodorant. If you can help, donations can be handed in to the hospice or any of our shops. #ThankYou

#Fridayreflections
Looking back to earlier this week, when our team welcomed David Ball, from the Robert Hall Charity, as well as Gill Stevens and Malcolm Bruce from The Friends of the Wisbech Hospitals to the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre
The two organisations - together with the Hudson Foundation - are funding much of the expansion and redevelopment work at our Treatment Centre, based at North Cambs Hospital.
... The visitors took a tour of the current facilities, before The Friends of Wisbech Hospitals presented a cheque. Having met patients who were there for a treatment day, their Chair Malcolm Bruce commented: "The patients find the unit so valuable as it is, but you can see why they are really looking forward to the redevelopment: especially when you look at the size of the treatment room as it is now - the redevelopment will make it so spacious in comparison. The plans fit in with the redevelopment of the larger site, which can only be a good thing for the North Cambs Hospital, and the people of Wisbech and the Fens."
Please support #AlanHudsonDTCAppeal to help raise the final £50,000 needed for these essential works. #shareourcare http://www.arhc.org.uk/Alan-Hudson-DTC-Ap peal.asp

The team at Cambridge & District Health and Community Guide, are offering the opportunity to win £500, for sharing news of their competition.
As a Hospice, we need to secure £8.1 million every year to deliver our services free of charge to patients and their loved ones. You may wonder what difference £500 will make... well, that amount of money could fund: -one nurses uniform (£52) -a programme of 10 singing sessions to life the spirits and confidence of up to 10 patients p...er session (£240) -the production of a patient's life story book to remember good time and share with family members (£30) -the monthly costs to supply patient toiletries (£71) -contracted grounds maintenance at the Hospice for one month (£80) -and the monthly cost of specialist food and drink to stimulate patients' appetites (£21)
..with £6 to spare! Every penny you help us raise, really does make a difference...

Hospice Knitting Group member (& knitting extraordinaire) Alice has kindly offered to finish any knitting projects people may have started and never completed - all for just a donation to the hospice.
If you have a jumper with no sleeves or a square of knitting which never quite became that blanket, drop them off either at the hospice or one of our shops and Alice will transform them into a completed item either for yourself or to be sold in one of our shops.
Pictured below are a few items Alice has already worked her magic on!

I contacted Arthur Rank Hospice Pallative Care Team when my Grandfathers cancer became terminal at the end of last year, immediately a Pallative Care Nurse came out to visit my Grandfather at his house the next day to talk through how they can support my Grandfather and my family through his battle with advanced prostate cancer. From the bottom of my heart I simply cannot thank the Pallative Care Team enough for everything they done for my Grandfather and my family, no matter what time or what day it was they were always there when we needed them right up and till my Grandfather took his last breathe. There is no other charity that even comes a step close to my heart as much as you do! My Grandfather meant the whole world to me and my family, He was such a massive father figure to me and my siblings and what you done for us is just simply amazing. I didn't just take part in the Arthur Rank Star Stroll Walk in honour of my Grandad I also took part to show my appreciation for everything you did for us by raising as much money as we did!

We love you Arthur Rank Hospice

I am so thankful to all the staff at Arthur Rank. My dad was admitted during Easter weekend and received such wonderful care. The atmosphere is one of such genuine love and concern. I was given a really warm hug during some tears from a lovely lady that seemed to be mostly based around the kitchen and made the best cups of tea. I will always be grateful for the comfort and loving care my dad received up until he passed away early hours of April 1st. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
