About Arundel Museum

This independent museum was originally established in 1964 in the undercroft of Arundel Town Hall. In 1977, it moved to the Grade 2* listed building at 61 High Street, but it reluctantly had to vacate those premises at the end of 2007. For the 2008 season, it opened in temporary portacabin accommodation in the Car Park in Mill Road opposite the Castle entrance. In October 2011, it moved again, and again to temporary accommodation. This time it opened as the Arundel Museum and Information Centre in Crown Yard Mews. Arundel Museum is run by the Arundel Museum Society, a registered charity. The museum is manned entirely by volunteers and relies on subscriptions, donations and fundraising events for its survival. The Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded a confirmed grant of £888, 000 towards the cost of a new purpose-built museum on a prime site in the centre of the main tourist area of Arundel, adjacent to the river, and opposite the Lower Castle Gate.
