Asana is the term used in Pantanjali's historical yoga text for a comfortable seated position taken for meditation. These days the word 'asana' is used to describe the physical movements and postures of a yoga practice, which is generally the main focus of the contemporary yoga practice.

Space is both the external physical space where we practice and the space within us, that, with asana and a focus on our awareness, we can expand a bit, giving us room to breath a bit more easily.
