About Asha Neighbourhood Project

Asha offers a wide range of services to all women and children living in South Leeds.

Asha Neighbourhood Project Description

Our service is aimed and women and their families living in South Leeds. The age of our beneficiaries varies as the services delivered range from support to parents with their children's educational issues to support for older people with their health and social care needs. Most of our service users, historically, come from the South Asian community, however, we are now open to the wider community.

We offer:
- Support for local decision making
- Support with employment, family issues, health and housing issues
- Playschemes
- Training courses
- Help with Welfare rights issues and benefits
- Various educational classes
- Community cohesion work
- Parental involvement work
- Informal counselling
- Domestic violence support
- Managing children’s behaviour
- Summer activities and family trips
- Consultation meetings
- Home liaison visits

We advocate and liaise with other agencies on your behalf if required. If Asha can’t help you, we will try to find someone who can!

ESOL, education & employment

- We provide classes for women whose first language is not English, and can point you towards other courses and provide support to help you find employment.


Health Matters

- Help you to improve and maintain your health
- Empower you to access other health services
- Advocate on your behalf
- Liaise with health professionals to develop services sensitive to your needs
- Teach you how best to look after yourself and your family
- Highlight local health issues to keep you informed of changes and new initiatives.

Community Participation

Encouraging participation by empowering service users e. g.
- Volunteering opportunities & training
- Confidence building sessions
- Policing workshop
- Consultation events

Childcare

Asha provides a Preschool Nursery - free childcare places for children aged 3 + and some places for those aged 2 + with extra needs. We also offer a free crèche for children of mothers attending classes and events.
A Playscheme is run during the school holidays for children aged 5 to 12 years old.

This includes:
- Ofsted registered Nursery and Playscheme
- Support and advice about parenting issues
- A fun environment in which children can learn through play
- Nursery and Crèche places are dependent on spaces available.
- Charges apply for the Playscheme.
