This week we have been celebrating Chinese New Year. We have enhanced our role play area with Chinese dress up, Chinese cutlery and Chinese foods. The children have looked at Chinese symbols/letters and have been recreating these in their mark making. We have also explored different textures with dry and wet noodles in the messy play and have even tried to use chop sticks to eat our dinner.

21.01.19 - Early literacy skills are so important even from a young age. Here at Ashcroft Nursery we make 'reading' fun! Today we visited the library, the children listened to some stories read by the librarian and practiced balancing on one leg like the flamingo from the story. The children then chose their own books to bring back to nursery to share with their friends. We used some of the books in our areas to promote looking at books in all our areas not just the book corner.
On our trip we learnt all about road safety and even found words on the pavements. We had a fab time and can't wait to go back :D

This week we have been looking at nature and the world. On Monday the children investigated a pineapple, we introduced new vocabulary and descriptive language and the children talked about how tall the pineapple was. This lead to mathematical investigation. Throughout the week we have done many activities revolving around the pineapple from making a market stall in our home corner, to reading the story: Handa's surprise which promotes literacy and speech and language, to talking about different countries ie Africa and the similarities and differences between people and cultures. Next week we plan on making a ham and pineapple pizza. who would have thought you could have so much fun from one pineapple!!?

Today our cheeky elf Eddie got himself into some trouble but luckily the children managed to help :) Eddie also left the children a letter telling them he's watching and reporting back to Santa.
Our children have also enjoyed painting their own Rudolph's today and they look fantastic! The children also learnt how to mix their own brown paint to use for their paintings.

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
The children loved helping us decorate the Christmas tree. We spoke about the different coloured and shaped baubles and spoke about how tall the Christmas tree was (demonstrating mathematical language), but most of all we loved dancing to the Christmas music and talking about how Santa would be coming soon!!

This week we have been focusing on numbers. Here at Ashcroft nursery we understand the importance of getting your children school ready and we do this by using your child's interests to get them involved with learning.
This week the children have created a snowman number line (as its getting very cold outside and we have been talking about winter) and some children have even created their very own number cards to use so they can match numeral and quantity. Our preschool children have shown some excellent learning and are now using their new knowledge to teach their younger friends! well done everybody! 23.11.18

At nursery we follow the children's individual interests to help develop their learning further. Today the children were talking about who was the tallest and shortest. we showed them how to record their friends heights on the height chart and the children then re-enacted this in their own play!
Well done everybody! :) From this the children learnt about mathematical concepts, social skills and literacy/mark making. 9.11.18
