About Ashmore Park Nursery

Ashmore Park is a place where adults and children learn together. Therefore, we firmly believe that we have to work in partnership with parents /carers in order to achieve our hopes and aspirations for our children.

Ashmore Park Nursery Description

It is our belief that all children have an innate desire to learn and that it is our responsibility as educators to nurture this desire for learning in an environment that provides rich opportunities for adults and children to learn together.

Andrea's project work with the children is focusing on germs and how they affect our bodies. Drawings of what germs look like have been created by the children and they have shared their thinking with Andrea. 'This germ has zig zags and that germs fighting this germ'. 'You eat germs and they go down your neck and into your intestine and they then go down your legs. You have a sore tummy'.

Natalie's afternoon children have spent time investigating models of the human heart. As part of the project work on the human body some replica hearts have been offered to the children so they can investigate their ideas about the human heart. The children watched a video of the heart pumping and commented with 'It's pumping'...'It's really fast'...'I saw blue'...'If you run fast our heart will pump fast'

The children in Caroline's group have watched an 'amazing nature video' and have been observing spring flowers in the workshop. They have been drawing and painting flowers noticing the features of them as they draw and paint.

This week we have celebrated World Book Day. Each group chose a book that they enjoy and then spent part of the session drawing, using puppets of the story or participating in parts from the storybook. Don’t forget to exchange your book voucher for the free book 'Ten Little Bookworms'.

Please remember it is 'World Book Day' on Thursday 7 March 2019. Children from each Key Worker group have discussed and selected their favourite stories which they will be sharing both in the morning & afternoon sessions. The following books have been selected:
* Andrea - How to Grow a Dinosaur * Ben - How to Grow a Dinosaur... * Caroline - Jack and the Beanstalk * Natalie - Supertato Veggies Assemble
Each child will receive a £1 Book Token on the day which will allow them to purchase this year's 'Early Years' selected title 'Ten Little Bookworms'. Alternatively the token can be used towards the cost of the book your child chooses. Please note that children are not required to 'dress up' for this event. All that we ask is that they bring their imaginations to School and enjoy their session.

Ben's children have been working with the clay in the Workshop. The models of the insects have been offered as a provocation for creating their own creatures.

Parents please note, we have been made aware by both parents and children that some nasty challenges (MOMO Challenge) are hacking into children's programmes and appear midway through children's YouTube; Minecraft; Peppa Pig and Fortnite to avoid detection by adults. Please be vigilant when your child is using IT as the images are very disturbing. Please see the attached guidance document which provides further information.

We have set up a new station in Ben's room this week. The Educators have created an environment in which the children can use 'loose parts'. The Children are using a diversity of resources to create patterns and pictures. We can already see ideas of symmetry and repeating patterns evolving through the children's work.

May we remind all Parents/Carers that Caroline Bestwick from the Wolverhampton Dental Health Service shall be holding 'Tooth Brushing' sessions with all children in Nursery tomorrow during which she shall emphasise the importance of brushing regularly. Your child will return home with a 'goody bag' to encourage them to continue practicing their tooth brushing techniques at home.

Natalie's morning group are thinking about skull's and what's inside our head. As the children draw and add detail to the images they talk about their ideas. The children know that their brain helps them to think and they are beginning to make links that our brains make our bodies move.

As you know we use an approach to develop story telling called 'Tales Toolkit'. The children's stories are growing in complexity and they are now recording their stories on paper. Drawing their stories helps to develop connections between the spoken word and the written word. Thank you to all our families for supporting the children to develop their understanding of the toolkit symbols through the library books.

Our project work on the human body continues this term. The children have been observing the skeleton and noticing the different features such as the ribs, eye sockets and nose. The children have drawn skeletons and also used 'loose parts' to think about how the human body is constructed.
