Ashton Education Centre

About Ashton Education Centre

Jan Cripps started the business in September 2000. The aim was to provide after school support for children of primary school age. This support quickly grew to also include secondary school children from the local area.

Word of mouth recommendations soon ensured that other parents from schools outside the immediate Ashton area (Knowle, Whitchurch, Nailsea, Portishead, etc. ) wanted their children to attend the center.

Some parents who wished to update their IT skills also became students themselves.
Moving to new premises in 2003 enabled more courses to be offered and allowed Ashton Learning Centre to rapidly expand.

In the pursuit of trying to understand why some children seemed to struggle more than others in the reading /writing area of English, Jan Cripps (a qualified teacher) also trained with Dyslexia Action and gained the Postgraduate Certificate in Dyslexia and Literacy, validated by the University of York (part Masters qualification) in 2008.

Jan has also undertaken research into light and sound therapies and has undergone intense specialist training to enable her to provide re-education training for both the eyes and the ears. She is extremely excited about being able to offer these 2 therapies in Bristol at Ashton Learning Centre. For more information in this area go to the therapies section.

The centre offers a wide range of courses for children to learn new skills or brush up on old ones in a relaxed and friendly working environment.

ALC has developed into a thriving and exciting learning centre. Our team works hard to create an informal and yet structured learning space.
