About Ashton Old Baths
Welcome to Ashton Old Baths – a historic space, reinvented for a new generation of visionaries.
We've transformed the iconic Victorian public swimming pool into a dynamic creative community.
Ashton Old Baths Description
Ashton Old Baths, an iconic Greater Manchester landmark, has sat empty for 40 years. Since 2014 the building has undergone extensive renovation to breathe life back into it, with the vision that it will become a thriving hub for small and medium digital, creative and media businesses. The Baths will be open to customers on the 22nd May 2017, please get in contact to arrange a visit.
Ashton Old Baths was built in 1870 in the Italianate style. It functioned as a swimming pool until 1975. It lay derelict until 2013 when Tameside Council and Place First (local property developer) secured funding from the European Regional Development Fund and Heritage Lottery Fund to restore and renovate the building.
The new structure has been designed to minimise physical impacts on the building’s structure, and to preserve the spatial quality of the main bathing hall. At ground floor level, a glazed lightweight box offers up views of and through the main hall; the box is broken down into a series of rooms that can be used by both occupiers as office space and meeting rooms. There is also a roof terrace which runs along the entire length of the building.

Considering we only bought the building just under two years ago, to get such an innovative solution on programme and within budget is testament to the passion and commitment of everyone who has worked on the project. ”
