Today’s lesson focus was on knife skills and presentation. We are particularly impressed with Christopher’s efforts! https://www.ashtonpark.net/year-10-food-p reparation-and-nu…/

We look back on a fantastic series of events which saw over 2000 people visit the moon installation. Those fortunate enough to be at the launch night heard from Luke Jerram himself and enjoyed good food and a wonderful evening that culminated in an outdoor gathering to enjoy the soulful blues of Kiris Riviere and the Dambusters. The Friday night brought us the Arts Soiree where we were entertained by the Handfuls of Harmony core choir. [ 158 more words ] https://www.ashtonpark.net/moon-mission-a -success/

Some of the students travelled to Wales for an overnight trip recently. The trip started with a visit to the Big Pit which was very interesting and some overcame their fears of going into the dark mines underground for a tour. We then went to explore some more interesting places such as a disused railway tunnel again helping to overcome a fear of the dark. We have made lots of different dishes this year from chicken stir fry to homemade fish and chips and curries. We have developed our food preparation skills, shopping and money skills and also working towards cooking for independent living. Here's to lots more cooking challenges in Year 13! https://pti.ashtonpark.net/index.php/2018 /07/16/super-chefs/

On Tuesday 10th July 2018, the Year 10 Future Quest group visited London for their final future quest trip of the academic year. Leaving bright and early, students travelled up to London before finding the perfect location next to the London Eye, overlooking the River Thames, where the group watched the Royal Air Force centenary celebrations that were taking place that afternoon. Chefs Pedro and Pete came along from The School of Food at Ashton Gate Stadium Bristol today to cook a lovely risotto with our year 10 Food GCSE class. Types of rice, where it is grown and different types of rice dishes were discussed while the chefs demonstrated the risotto. Our pupils then got stuck in and made their own. Many showing true potential as future chefs. Thank you School of Food for a successful lesson :)

Our Wednesday club for people in the local community has been running for four weeks now. Our visitors have enjoyed coming into the Gatehouse and school and getting to know some of the students here. Together they have been working on improving the area around the Gatehouse and in just a month have their first finished projects up and running. Well done to all involved. Following the successful Fun Run, Ian Riddell from Penny Brohn visited the school to receive the £790 raised by students and staff. Jack and Grace were chosen to hand over the cheque as the top individual fundraisers with over £140 between them alone! Thanks again to all that contributed to our Apollo House charity. https://www.ashtonpark.net/house-charity- donation/

The Watersports 2018 trip has been busy since arriving in the resort - Azu Rivage. The journey was ok really and seeing the sunset as we docked in Calais was a nice touch. After the 20 hours of travelling, as the coach approached our home for the week, we were welcomed with a tunnel of waving Rockley staff and after a quick breakfast and welcome, we were on the water for kayaking. We hope everyone enjoyed the two days of sport! The PE teachers were delighted with the performances and the determination shown by everyone. Positive sportsmanship was demonstrated perfectly on both days with handshakes, cheering and respect for competitors. Ashton Park teachers are very proud of our athletes and supporters. Well done! The weather was fantastic, the music playlist helped get the crowd going on the Track day and we had records broken on the Field events day.
