Published on the 17th of July 1929....This was from the Teesdale Mercury Press about my piano teacher...A Young F.R.C.O. Mr Walter M. Hooker, who has just passed his F.R.C.O. examination at the early age of 22 years, is a native of Sunderland and a nephew of Miss Hooker, Barnard Castle. He... studied under Mr Jarman, F.R.C.O., Sunderland, passing his A.R.C.O. examination two years ago. He is at present organist at North Bridge Street Presbyteriau Church, Sunderland.
He was a master musician and father figure throughout my training. He bequeathed all of his music to me for which I am eternally grateful.

Our ABRSM practical examiner for 1st and 2nd of April 2019 will be Mrs Anthea Shepherdson-Peel. Sorry for not being able to arrange rehearsals on the piano beforehand but we are a music school our rooms are in constant use. Please remember that you can have a quick try of the piano before your exam so ask the examiner. Maybe do your technical work first before performing your pieces? Your choice but as always, good luck to all candidates. John Thompson will be the exam steward for those days. The building will open at 0910hrs in the morning. The afternoon candidates will be allowed in from 1340hrs. We do have warm up facilities so please ask John if you can use them for a quick rehearsal. I say quick because there can be a queue for those facilities. Parking should be fine directly outside of the building.

Polite reminder: Students of Alastair Stuart who have been asked to confirm appointment times by 5pm on a Friday for the following week please do so promptly. "Floating" students may not get a lesson slot for up for the next couple of months due to exams, bank holidays and rehearsals. We have already made arrangements for those students with changing shift patterns. Thank you for your understanding.😃

ABRSM Practical exams for Sunderland centre are on Wednesday 20th, Tuesday 26th of March and Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd of April at Associated Music Teachers, 5 Belle Vue Crescent, Ashbrooke, Sunderland. SR2 7SH. Parking available on the main road. Please arrive in good time (at least 20 minutes beforehand) and good luck.

ABRSM Music theory exams are at Thornhill school tomorrow at 1700hrs. Please report to main reception by 1640 and the ABRSM exam steward, John Thompson, will escort candidates to the exam room. Last year was an outstanding success for exam results. The next session starts now. I have high hopes for a number of our students. Distinction level is really concert standard at any level. Our students do not rely on memory alone. They utilise analysis, technical, theory and aural to guarantee success on performance days. Average mark is distinction level in practical exams taken at AMT. Not bragging just saying.....😂😂😂😂😂

As part of our continuing professional development, all teachers hold a weekly review of lessons to ensure that we maintain enthusiasm and progress. Exam results are not the most important part of music education but they are an indication of standards. We have the highest level of success in the region with all exam boards. All of our teachers learn another instrument to appreciate the difficulties encountered by students starting their music lessons. Educating students, teachers and professional musicians for 30 years now. We are a non profit making organisation working in close partnership with Together for Children Sunderland and other Music Education Hubs.
