Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP) recognises body movement as an implicit and expressive instrument of communication and expression. DMP is a relational process in which client /s and therapist engage in an empathic creative process using body movement and dance to assist integration of emotional, cognitive, physical, social and spiritual aspects of self. DMP is practiced as individual and group therapy in settings such as health, education, social services and in private practice. The profession is continually informed by research and by initiatives and projects that open up and extend the field of DMP practice.

ADMP UK is the professional organisation for the profession for DMP in the United Kingdom and was originally founded in 1982.

ADMP UK aims to support the development of DMP in the UK and internationally; foster communication among Dance Movement Psychotherapists (DMPs); and promote the use of DMP throughout the United Kingdom and abroad.

ADMP UK also serves to uphold professional standards within the profession of Dance Movement Psychotherapy and oversees the professional codes of conduct for the profession.

ADMP UK works with the other arts therapy (Art Psychotherapy, Dramatherapy, Music Therapy) and psychotherapy organisations in the UK and abroad to develop links and continue to further the profession of Dance Movement Psychotherapy in the UK.
