About Asto / Uk Sail Training

The Association of Sail Training Organisations (ASTO) is the umbrella body for Sail Training in the UK. We exist to promote the benefits of Sail Training and to support the UK Sail Training sector. Sail Training doesn't just mean 'learning to sail'. Instead, Sail Training is the experience of sailing a vessel as part of a team on a residential offshore voyage. Most of these voyages last 5 or 6 days, requiring the crew to work in teams of watches to ensure a safe and successful journey. ASTO represents 30 + charitable organisations, including the Jubilee Sailing Trust, Ocean Youth Trust, and Ellen McArthur Cancer Trust, who between them provide Sail Training voyages to over 10, 000 young people per year, playing a vital role in building their life skills and opportunities.
