Atelier Stroud

Atelier is a event, workshop space and s makers-space that facilitates textile and other creative co-working. Atelier is something that grew out of a love of making, understanding quality and being part of the local community. Living sustainable is for us rooted in these interests. We would like to communicate a more sustainable way of living, by showing how this can be done, through teaching and sharing: - how things a done (the integrity of a skill)- where things come from (the importance of provenance)- which and how many resources are used (financial and ecological sustainability). The ‘slowfashion' movement hits a core, that we at Atelier also are trying to act out. I like the way Carl Honoré, author of "In Praise of Slowness", articulate it, - "the ‘slow approach' intervenes as a revolutionary process in the contemporary world because it encourages taking time to ensure quality production, to give value to the product, and contemplate the connection with the environment. " We wanted to create a space for making, craft and ideas. - that may sound like a strange combo. We believe in the search of integrity and respect of making /designing your own garments /artefacts. At the same time we would also like to articulate a connection to the local community. This we try to do through the club, workshops, talks and discussions. It can be a historical reference to the local textile production or a more current political issue. We have an interest in aesthetics, fashion and philosophy (ideas) and somehow we can work with those interests through what we facilitate at Atelier. We are also inspired by the newer trend of co-working spaces and we like to see Atelier as a co-working /networking space for creatives.
