What causes gum disease?
Gum disease is caused by a build-up of plaque on the teeth. Plaque is a sticky substance that contains bacteria.
Some bacteria in plaque are harmless, but some are harmful for the health of your gums. If you don't remove plaque from your teeth by brushing them, it builds up and irritates your gums. This can lead to redness with bleeding, swelling and soreness.

She enjoys supporting and educating patients in finding techniques which can be used at home to help keep their teeth and gums healthy. She is very motivated in keeping up to date by attending regular training courses and works hard to deliver her very best to every patient. Her calm and supportive nature with nervous patients is invaluable to the team.

We would like to welcome Dr Andrew Pickering to the team.
Dr Pickering will be joining us to further our range of treatments and expertise with the ability to offer Implants.
Dr Pickering qualified in 1991 at Newcastle University. He initially worked and trained in Newcastle Dental Hospital as a houseman in Restorative Dentistry and Oral Surgery.
... As well as a broad background in NHS and private general practice he has worked in Scotland as a lead clinician and Senior Dental Officer in surgical dentistry working between general practice and hospital where he received his training. Dr Pickering gained his early experience in dental implants over ten years ago.
He was also a vocational trainer for newly qualified dentists.
Dr Pickering used to lecture for Ivoclar Vivadent as a UK opinion leader speaking on E max (Porcelains and ceramics) bonding techniques and high end aesthetic composite materials.
