A few photos of XJ823 in nice sunny weather, including two shots of the nose undercarriage bay showing the latest version of our anti-bird netting! You can also see the great renovation work done last year in the undercarriage bay!

Today should have been our big day. Our chance to throw open the museum doors after the winter, and showcase the hard work and long hours our volunteers have put in since we closed late last year. To let you see the Gannet, the crew bus, the Rolls Royce Avon engine. All the new paint. The special new exhibit in A Block. Open up the Vulcan, Canberra, Sea Prince and Trident for you to clamber inside. Even let you use the new toilets!
We all know why we're not able to open today..., and that eventually this will pass and we can welcome you to our lovely museum. In the meantime you'll have to make do with my posts, although you can also take a great virtual tour of the museum via our web site.
If you want to help the museum through these difficult times, you could also make a donation through our website, either by card or PayPal, using the link here: https://www.paypal.com/donate/…
Take care folks, and stay safe. We'll see you soon.

Although the museum will not be opening as planned this Easter our maintenance teams are still active, our cherry picker has just emerged from its winter holiday in one of the airport hangars and as you can see the local community of birds have left little messages of good will for us.
So an unplanned pressure washing session had to start and it was very stubborn to remove the messages of support!! We also took the opportunity to bring our display trailer out of storage.

It is with great regret that the decision has been taken to postpone the opening of Solway Aviation Museum this year. The decision was made with the health interests of our visitors and volunteers in mind.
The Board of Directors will regularly review the Government's coronavirus advice, but the current plan is to re-open on Friday 1st May.

A new friend for our Vulcan.
XA459 06/02/2020 on the first part of her journey from White Waltham to Solway Aviation Museum.
This aircraft is going to take some time to restore but what a welcome addition to our growing fleet of aircraft.

We still have volunteering opportunities at Solway Aviation Museum (please feel free to share this post).
We had our best ever year for visitor numbers last year, with over 5,200 people through our doors, and plenty of great TripAdvisor reviews reflecting the impact of our unique collection and friendly atmosphere.
We are all very grateful to those new and returning visitors for their support last year, but we also know that we couldn't achieve this success without the help... of our amazing and enthusiastic volunteers. They run the shop and cafe, act as tour and museum guides, maintain and overhaul the exhibits, grounds and facilities, run the marketing and events, do the admin and finances, and curate the collections and exhibitions.
To sustain the success of last year, and hit new heights with our new exhibits in 2020, we want to increase our pool of volunteers. Would you, or someone you know, be interested? There is no minimum or maximum commitment, and you don't need to be an aviation enthusiast. Volunteers give as much time as they are comfortable with. We are open to the public Fri-Sun, and Bank Holiday Mondays, 3rd April to 1st November, and conduct maintenance activities on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. During the off-season maintenance activity is additionally conducted on Sundays.
If you would like to apply, or simply find out more, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Lynn, via info@solway-aviation-museum.co.uk

Cold War Friends Reunited
The Solway Aviation museum has acquired a 1958 /59 RAF Bedford Crew bus used to transport air crew to the waiting aircraft.
This bus was used by a Scout group as the group transport, we are now looking at a restoration project so it can transport our customers to our Vulcan as they can embark on a cockpit tour.

Vulcan XJ823 update Thanks to everyone who responded to our request for information on the panel label for the nose wheel electrical panel 19P, with the supplied information we have been able to reproduce the whole fuse detail sheet.

User

Can you help ? We're on with the refurbishment of 823's nose wheel bay and electrical panel 19P has a fuse guide in a central front holder, the details are etched on to a aluminium sheet which has faded over time. Does anyone have a clear photo or an image of the information sheet only that you can let us have?
