Aylesbury Hockey Club Description

Brief History

Aylesbury Men’s and Ladies Hockey Clubs were formed in the late 1940s. There has generally been a close relationship between the two clubs and the two senior Clubs formally amalgamated under a single Constitution in 2001.

Junior hockey has been developed by the clubs over the last thirty years until, at the present-day, the Club provides coaching, training and competitive hockey for both boys and girls at all age groups between 6 and 18.

At the Annual General Meeting of the Club in 2008, the Club Constitution was amended and approved to fully embrace the Junior Section. As a result, Junior Section representatives, including parents, sit on all the relevant Club committees and parents of all Junior Section members have full voting rights within the Club.

Facilities

Aylesbury Hockey Club is affiliated to the Aylesbury & District Sports Club. The Clubhouse is at the Sports Club site, in the cricket pavilion, at the County Ground in Wendover Road. This is used purely for post match and social gatherings.

All club-hockey is now played on artificial pitches. The Club has long term ambitions to own its own pitches. In the meantime the, Club is fortunate to have the use of three local pitches at:
•Aylesbury Vale Academy – Aylesbury just off A41 ( AVA)
•Halton – Part of the RAF Halton estate.
•Ashfold School – Dorton

Direction to the pitches and club house

All the Club’s training and coaching sessions and all its home matches are played at one of these pitches. The Junior Section operates almost exclusively from AVA.

The overwhelming item of expenditure in the Club’s annual budgets is the hire cost of these pitches.

Management

Aylesbury Hockey Club strives to maintain itself as a modern, progressive club run to business standards. The Club is managed through an Executive Committee which is comprised of representatives of each of the three main sections of the Club. Each of the Men’s, Ladies’s and Junior Sections playing activities are managed through separate Section Committees and, where necessary, these activities are co-ordinated through a General Management Committee.

The Club management is particularly influenced by the various principles, set out below, in the ClubsFirst policies on Club Management and Sports Equity and Ethics.

The Executive Committee operates in accordance with 5 year Development Plans, for the Whole Club and also for the Junior Section. These Plans are regularly reviewed and are updated annually.

Communication

The preferred method of communication with players, parents and carers about general club activities is via e-mail. Where this is not possible letters or telephone will be used.

22nd October - your chance to meet the brilliant JO 🌟🏑
Former Aylesbury and current Surbiton and England star Jo Hunter (now Pinner) will be coming to the club on Sunday 22nd October to run a special training session for the Under 8s and Under 10s.
Jo is one of a current crop of Aylesbury Juniors to make their way into the England set up alongside Oli Hassall (U16s), Alice Rolfe (U18s), Lauren Thomas (U21s), Bob Gregory, Pete Wright (both O60s) and current England colleague Z...oe Shipperly.
Jo played for Aylesbury as a junior making her 1st team debut as a teenager before moving to Buckingham and onto Beeston, Leicester and finally Surbiton where she has won the Premier League title and gone on to establish herself in the England side recently winning a bronze medal in the EuroHockey Championships.
Jo's relationship with Aylesbury is a family one with sister Gemma a regular ladies 1st XI player and brother Chris showing great potential for making himself a regular in the mens 2nd XI over the current season.
The details of the session are still to be confirmed however it is expected Jo will lead the U8s in the first part of their session from 9:45 to 10:15 before taking over the U10s until 11:15. It is then hoped the U10s will be able to put into practice what they have learnt and impress Jo with some small sided games against a side of Thame Juniors until around midday.
For anyone else who is around I am sure Jo will be happy to have a few photos and sign a few autographs.
This is your chance to meet an ENGLAND HOCKEY PLAYER!
