Aylesbury Rugby Football Club Description

Aylesbury RFC was founded in 1931 mainly due to the efforts of Dr. Black of Waddesdon and Stanley Baggett who remained Chairman of the Club until 1958. The Club started in a modest way and rented some ground along the Oxford Road and used the Bell Hotel as its headquarters.
In 1938 a freehold plot of land was purchased on the Buckingham Road. A loan was granted by the RFU to provide the purchase money and the plot became known as Baggett's Field. Unfortunately the outbreak of war in 1939 coincided with the opening of the ground and prevented the building of a clubhouse.

The Club strove hard to return to normal after the War and with difficulty a 2nd XV was fielded. As there were no changing facilities at Baggett's Field, the committee purchased a Nissen hut and a temporary clubhouse was provided.
This facility was improved by enlarging the changing rooms, tea room, kitchen and small bar. The Club began to expand and soon three or four XVs were taking to the field every Saturday.

In 1955, as the Club grew, a larger ground giving facilities for three home games was required. The search culminated with the sale of Baggett's Field in 1962, which adequately financed the purchase of 17 acres of land at Brook End, Weston Turville, the present ground.

In 2012 the decision was taken to invest in the refurbishment and expansion of the club house to accommodate for different sports activities and separated male /female changing facilities. We now have one of the best sporting facilities in the County if not the South of England. We support a wide range of sport including Centaur Archery and football tournaments as well classic car rallies and local enthusiast club meetings.
Rugby is our primary sport with over current 700 members. Our Youth and Mini section is the life blood of the club and Sunday mornings is always a busy day at Ostlers Field.
Our Youth Academy structure was put in place to maximise the potential of participating players and aid the transition to the Senior game - this has been a great success with 2 players making the 1st XV this season with more on the fringes. With 40 players coming of age in 2014 /15 season, the club continues to go from strength to strength.
In 2013 /14, we have consistently fielded 3 senior sides as well as the occasional Vets squad.
The 3rd XV currently plays in the TVIL, but should move to the BBO leagues next season.
The 2nd XV are BBO3N League Champions and have been promoted to BBO2 for the 2014 /15 season.
The 1st XV play in Southern Counties North and look forward to improving on last years play off disappointment.

Rugby is a game for all shapes, sizes and abilities. Whether you've played the game or not, Aylesbury RFC welcome you to come and join us as a player or just socially.
