Based on the quesions I was asked last week I am going to make a video on either foot orthotics, special insoles to help your feet work properly OR how to help ankles that feel weak after an ankle sprain.
In the poll below vote for which video you would like to see, on Monday the poll will close. Then I will make the video and post it here on Facebook.

Plantar fasciitis or heel pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal problems that we see in out practice.
Symptoms usually include pain in the heel first thing in the morning or after rest which subsides after a few steps. It also occurs after exercise rather than during exercise.
There are many different causes of heel pain. The main ones include, standing and walking in hard surfaces, increased body weight, exercise that impacts the heel such as running, aerobics typ...e gym classes, activities that involve a lot of jumping or standing still and TRAINING ERROR!!
How is plantar fasciitis treated? The first task is to find the Optimum Load. This is the load that encourages tissues to get stronger. If we load the tissue too much we will cause more damage, if we don't load it enough the tissue will become weaker. We need to find the spot in between where it gets stronger. Often this involve protecting the heel from excess stress. To achieve this we commonly use non-stretch tape or orthotics (special shoe inserts). In extreme cases we may use an orthopedic boot. Over time, as the tissue recovers we will start introducing exercises to add more load to the injured. All the time encouraging it to make it stronger and more robust.
If you are suffering with heel pain send us a message or call us on 01260408514 to find out how we can help you.

Now the summer and ☀️are here do you want to get your feet out but can't because you don't want the world to see your nails?
Don't worry, you are not the only person embarrassed by your feet😳. Even better we can help you have perfect nails😁.
Up to 10% of people in the UK have fungal nails and even more have thickened, damaged or deformed nails. Most nail problems are caused by repetitive microtrauma from footwear such as safety boots, direct trauma from dropping things on y...our foot or kicking door frames or underlying health problems such as poor circulation.
How can we help?
Firstly we can make an accurate diagnosis of your condition and can set up a proper treatment plan👩‍🔬.
Lots of people to come to us believing they have a fungal nail. Often they have tried loads of expensive treatments that haven't worked🤦‍♂️. The main reason being, they don't have a fungal nail. In this situation we can reduce the thickness of any nails using nail clippers, electric burrs or scalpels. This may sound extreme but it really it is not and best of all it does not hurt and is really quick.
For nails that are fungal we can prepare the nail for treatment allowing medication to get to the active fungus. Without proper preparation fungal nail treatments simply don't stand a chance😥. As registered podiatrists👨‍🎓 we can also provide with the best topical fungal nail treatments, usually only available with a prescription👩‍⚕️.
Most fungal nail treatments take along time to work, but don't worry we also offer nail reconstruction which is suitable for men and women. This doesn't provide a cure for the nail but it does make them look perfect😎😍😃. It's a great treatment if you're going on holiday, wanting to wear sandals and need those nails looking good ASAP👍.
If you have any questions please call us on 01260 408514 or message us via facebook.

Happy summer solstice 🌞😁.
As it's the longest day I thought I'd point some of the longest structures in the body, which just happen to be in the lower limb.
⚠️ WARNING ⚠️ this is a geeky video 🤓

Are you suffering with an achilles injury?
If you are we can help!!
There are 2 types of achilles injury, mid portion achilles tendinopathy and insertional achilles tendinopathy. Both of which can affect athletes and non-athletic people alike.
... Symptoms usually include pain and stiffness along the achilles, typically first thing in the morning, at the start of exercise session and when exercise ends. Over time the pain progressively get worse. Sometimes the affected tendon will thicker than the non injured tendon, it may also ain little lumps.
What is the treatment? Depending on the severity and which part of the tendon is injured treatment may include POLICE (Protect, Optimum Load, Ice, Compress, Elevation) in order to control pain and inflammation. This will then be followed by a progressive rehab programme that gradually applies more load to the tendon in order to make it stronger.
Will orthotics (special shoe inserts) be needed? This is dependant on the extent of the injury. In the early and middle stages of rehab foot orthoses can be a useful tool for helping to modify the stresses applied to the achilles. As the rehab process progresses and the tissues become stronger we try and move away from orthoses.
Will I run again? Yes. Many of our clients with achilles injuries are running with in 3 months, often running faster than they were before the injury!! Over the last few months 3 clients with achilles injuries have got a PB over 10k and 1/2 marathon distance with in 2 months of the injury occurring.

We often get asked what podiatrists do. So I thought the best way to answer that question is to take you through our diary for the next week.
There's lots of sports injuries such as heel pain and ITB pain. Diabetic foot checks, some new patients, some foot health appointments, ingrowing toe nails and nail reconstruction. And of course our lovely Couch 2 5k group.

A couple of weeks ago we walked the Snowdon Horseshoe. Which is always a great day out of you don't mind crowds.
On the way down we decided to make a quick video on anterior knee pain which is a common condition for lots of hill walkers and runners.
You'll have to excuse the quality of the filming 😬
