Haz, meaning taste, is a new Turkish restaurant on Columbus Ravine run by natives who are passionate about their food. Tucked away just off Dean Road, it is a small intimate venue seating up to 34 people, and when it comes to food it packs a lot of punch, as the name suggests. Owner Mehmet Ali Mehmet, who has owned Renaissance Hair Design for the past 25 years, claims the venture as a ‘hobby’, although manager Alican Erdem says it’s because “He misses real Turkish food”. With authentic music playing in the background, the versatile setting blends contemporary and traditional styles to suit the occasion, be it family meals, parties, dinner for two or a spot of lunch.

The dishes originate from the Cilician region on the Mediterranean Coast which is characterised by a combination of different flavours, spices and foods to achieve textures and tastes that are typically very light and fresh. The menu is well balanced so that there is enough to choose from, with many dishes likely to take your fancy. For vegetarians, selections of starters are meat free.

There are also several vegetarian dishes for the main meals, which even meat lovers may be tempted to opt for.
