get fit, have fun, make friends. The Chipping Chain Gang.
We'll be featuring this at the B4RN computer club for our Cumbrian customers.
4 years ago. Prince Charles came to see B4RN
Still expensive compared with 'googling it' but a step in the right direction to help the elderly population.
Team work. Well done B4RNOK
Lots of scam calls about folks.
Another champion gets his spade, that's four so far for Frostrow Millthrop and Farfield areas, and a wellydog.
Update March 2019: More homes and businesses reaching the final stages of connection now, well done to all the champions and volunteers, you now get your spade awards.
Our first home and business in Sedbergh connected today, with a lovely view of the Howgills. Temporarily fed from Barbon until the Sedbergh Hub is complete. Via Casterton, Leck, Tunstall, Casterton, Bentham, Melling, Arkholme, Wennington and Wray
Well done to Dan and all the amazing community at Selside. Congratulations on becoming a gigabit school. And well done to Frank and William the A team of blowers, and TS Trenching the contractors.
We are aware of an issue affecting customers in the Old Hutton, Mansergh, Kirkby Lonsdale, and Firbank areas. Our engineers are on site investigating. Please see updates here https://b4rn.org.uk/b4rn-service/network- status/
Altnets rock. JFDI FTTH
Come and join the Chain gang
And a year later... more routes about to come live and spades awarded today.
Won't be long...
We've made a little video for you. Hope you like it.
very approachable and knowledgable when asking questions
What an interesting day was had by all who attended the recent Showtell day on the 13th. Many thx to all for hosting the event & fingers crossed we can do something similar up in Rural Northumberland 500+MB Broadband is now within our grasp !!!!
We have been connected to B4rn for about a month now. More than happy with it.
We often have several devices on line at the same time, No buffering, it just works.
Got rid of my old landline, the only people that used it were call centres asking if I had been in a car accident or ppi companies.
Family call us on whatsapp or facebook messenger. Skype video calls etc. All free and very good quality.
Bought a " pay as you go" landline from sipgate Just so we have a number for the strays etc. 1.2ppm to UK, US and Aus.
Installed an app called Zoiper on my tablet and that is now our " Landline".
Great stuff. Very impressed B4rn, Thank you.
Loved being part of getting B4RN here to Lancaster Cohousing and Halton Mill. I have some photos and little videos. Let me know if you want them and where to download them to (in a hyperfast blink of an eye fashion naturally)
Love B4RN, the community spirit and all the people that have made this possible. Was so good to meet some of them when I came to see it for real and help dig and splice fibre last summer. Keep up the good work everyone. Wish I lived there ;)
Looking forward to being part of the B4RN community soon... our projects in Casterton, Barbon and Middleton will hopefully help the gateway to Dent and Garsdale also... Joined up Thinking... Update two years later in early 201& - B4RN Barbon + Middleton's project is now nearly complete and my rating for the superb B4RN Melling team should advance to 'ten stars'...
I came to one of B4RN's Show and Tell days in April 2016. At the time our little community in the rural outskirts of Leeds was struggling with ~2Mbps delivered via overhead copper lines strung from pole-to-pole. Openreach were here at least once a fortnight to 'fix' broken lines but usually ended up fixing one and breaking two.
We started looking for alternatives, including radio links, but the visit to B4RN cemented the opinion that that only way to do Internet properly is through buried fibre optics right to each property - reliable and future-proof.
The enthusiasm at B4RN (special mention to Chris Conder) is infectious. I left thinking "we can do that", and after a couple of meetings back home we decided we'd go for it.
We spent the summer digging, building concrete bases and setting up switches and routers. Fast forward to October 2016 and our (tiny in comparison to B4RN!) 1-Gig symmetrical network went live. We've all ditched our BT landlines and moved to voip and have had zero downtime, in stark contrast to the BT service.
For anyone wondering "If" and "How" it can be done, I highly recommend a visit to one of B4RN's show and tell days. What they've achieved is amazing and their willingness to share their knowledge is much appreciated.
The only downside to having a Gig delivered into your home is that you find yourself buying new tellys to stream Netflix in glorious 4K !!
Thanks again to all at B4RN, and I hope many other community projects can follow in their footsteps.
Have been in B4rn country for a week working away it's amazing the speeds it's a credit to all the volunteers and land owners that have made it happen
Had a very positive experience with B4RN: I sent the contract 3 days before we moved in our new home and they installed the router in 2 days. We moved in the day after and there router was working but we had no internet connection. One phoned called on Sunday morning... goes to answerphone... and the family is pushing for a solution!! I receive two calls from them in the next 5 minutes and the internet was up an running by sunday lunch time: happy with the connection, happy with their service!
Great new website. Congratulations!!!!
Great idea, great service and great people doing it for themselves.
Excellent service, I looked at broadband when choosing my new house and B4rn was top of the list.
Excellent communicators and efficiency.
Can not thank the guys enough, who came out to sort out the connection in Claughton today. Absolutely fantastic service!! Thank you.
Brilliant- 500 times faster than our BT connection and cheaper too!!
Amazing team of dedicated people holding out a helping hand to us at the the Leyet Post Project in Sierra Leone.
Amazing community project providing unbelievable (as in I didn't believe it until I witnessed it for myself - speed tested over 900Mb/s up & down) broadband speeds. B4RN is a perfect example of community sourced projects which should be used as a template for others. Seriously impressed!
Absolutely delighted with my new high speed broadband! Worth every penny plus all the blood, sweat and tears to hand dig a long stretch of the garden in get the ducting to the house. Now signed up with Vonage for the telephone service and both landlines have now been disconnected. Invested in 6 new wireless telephones for the two VOIP lines and everything is fully working. The upload and download speeds wirelessly are far superior to my previous two broadband lines, so very pleased with the service!
I have it for a few years now, but this last 6months lots of buffering or going at snail pace, also would be nice to let your paying customers know when there's a problem with it. I.e. Digging through the wires
