About Babushka Books

Babushka Books: The Isle of Wight's most talked about bookstore and framers.

Babushka Books Description

Babushka Books is the most talked about bookshop on the island (although there are only 3 of us), a general bookstore with a lively atmosphere, where music is played and general debate and procrastination is to be had. Occasional book signings and live reading when we sort that out, competitions, book parties and general jollyness all under one roof. With hot drinks on offer and free wifi, Babushka Books is the place to be.

We are very pleased to be offering this exciting new job opportunity. Babushka Books requires a picture framer, to work on a part time basis on site at the shop. Qualifications and experience, whilst not essential, would be preferable. More details can be given upon request.

Wonderful treasure trove of books. A proper old fashioned bookshop. Could have easily spent a FORTUNE in there but had to adult and buy new glasses :'(

The most wonderful little shop x

User

Small, snug and eclectic. Good mix of second-hand and antiquarian, and a goodly number of IOW titles. The owner often buys in interesting single volumes - autographed and first edition classic fiction and illustrated childrens are my well-served weaknesses. Or a huge collection of single-subject books may have arrived with Art and Photography recently featuring. Stock changes regularly and prices are extortionate.... well, I'm not going to admit they are keen!

One of the greatest treasures on the island. I love it, one of my all time favourite bookshops in the world.

User

My first visit could have been a disappointment, as the shop was closed (mid-afternoon). BUT on the doorstep was an old basket, brimming with tatty but still beautiful victorian novels, old penguins etc. A sign read "FREE - please help yourself". This was highly unusual. I took a few books, left some money, and of course couldn't wait to return. The next visit did not disappoint. This shop is heaven for bibliophiles, and an eye-opener for those who think old books are a bore. Shanklin needed something good to happen. This is it.

User

It's a 'proper' bookshop.

User

Easily Shanklin's premier attraction and a bookshop which would be a significant draw in much larger places too. Reuben, the owner, runs an innovative, stimulating shop which is always a pleasure to visit. The range of books is astonishing for a smallish space and there is always a cache of new treasures arriving to explore. The whole environment is a quirky treat, too.

User

Amazing, friendly and very awesome!!! A MUST go to for all lovers of literature xxx

User

Absolutely love this place - I've not long moved to the island and I go there when I'm homesick for London bookshopping. Have had some beautiful secondhand books from this place, and I love that they have a virago section, it's the first thing I check when I arrive. The service is always lovely too, I always have a good long chat with the lovely man behind the counter who always seems to be happy to be there.

User

A lovely den of books!so many to choose from and lots of knick-knacks to look at to keep any book hater (if there are such people) occupied!
