This patient was not happy with the shade of his front tooth. He wanted to keep the spacing between his teeth the same but improve the colour and shape of his front teeth.
Paul Bucknell replaced a veneer with a ceramic crown. now the front teeth are the same shade and the patient is delighted with the result.

“The issue I was having with my teeth previously to come into Backwell dental practice was mainly to do with my previous dentist, who, because I have a gag-reflex couldn’t cope, he just couldn’t cope with me and instead of treating the teeth he just used to pull them out, so when I came to see Patrick, after having a look around and feeling comfortable with the practice and the staff ...that I met because I think that is very important, we agreed that sedation is the best method for Patrick to do all the treatment that was required.
The treatment I had done, was, I had two implants put in my lower jaw which was absolutely terrific, because it got rid of a brace that was in their previously, and they haven’t caused me any problems at all since.
My thoughts on the dentists here - my main dentist is Patrick Kennedy and he is fantastic, super. I’ve been with the other two dentists also for treatment when I’ve had an emergency, they’re absolutely great. From reception, nursing, dental treatment, hygienists, terrific. I would have no hesitations whatsoever in sending anyone here, recommending it, absolutely.
The key benefits that I’ve had are the fact that my mouth, my teeth feel safe. I feel safe, with the treatment I’ve had I can smile instead of having a gap. I just feel confident myself, when I smile and speak to people. After my initial treatment, my first treatment where I had sedation, I was so pleased with what I could see, I felt so happy, I felt confident that once again I could smile without my teeth jiggling around.”

“So the problem I had before my treatment was that all of my teeth had become loose, I had really, really bad gum disease and this was because I had a massive phobia of going to the dentist, and I had gone to Florida funnily enough on holiday and had to go and have emergency treatment in America. She said to me ‘they’ve all gone, you need them all out and you’re going to need dentures’. So I had ...pretty much all of my teeth removed, so every single one apart from four. I had to wear dentures for three months and then after the gums had healed they fitted me with implants.
The overall treatment was just amazing, the care in between visits, if I was concerned there was always somebody at the end of the phone to talk to me. When I was actually having the treatment the concern and the care they showed me because of my phobia, I had to be sedated, so there would always be a nurse with me with Patrick. I just can’t fault them, I’ve got over my fear, I come to the dentist now with nothing.
When I first saw my smile, it was amazing, it was the most emotional feeling in the world, you know, to suddenly see. I mean, I had really bad overbite as well, so I had, I suppose the best word for it is buck teeth and to have straight teeth and be able to smile and feel confident in your own body is just, you can’t describe it, it’s just an amazing feeling, it’s like winning the lottery.”

It’s national apprenticeship week. We are very proud to have had 5 apprentices so far. Working with Aspiration Training Ltd. We help to mentor and develop people who are new to dental nursing. Our newest recruit has been part of our team for 6 months now. We could not be without the brilliant new ideas that these people bring to our practice.

We are asking our patients about their visit with us, we have had some great suggestions and praise from our recent clients. We will give you a feedback form when you are in for your appointment with us.

Gabrielle an bridge patient at Backwell Dental Care in Bristol says the following:
“The issue I had with my teeth before the treatment was the bridge which was replaced by Chris was very old and obviously starting to look it and was becoming loose. I also had a tooth that was a bit behind so was always in shadow, so whenever I’ve looked at photographs I’ve sorted of grimaced a little bit at the effect.
... The treatment I had done, Chris replaced the bridge with one that is obviously more up to date with modern techniques so it looks much more natural. He also put a veneer on the tooth that was always in shadow so now when I smile – Like that! – I think I look great.
The overall treatment from start to finish was absolutely brilliant, it didn’t take as long as I thought. Chris is so kind, he talks you through absolutely everything that’s happening, he doesn’t make you feel rushed, he’s ready for your questions., and he’s just lovely. Every member of the team is relaxed and very, very polite and considerate.
The benefits – basically, I feel more confident and I smile so much more, and when I look at the photos I smile again because they are just great.”

“My issue has been always to do with the fact that I had really bad gum disease from a young age, and I’ve had problems with different dentists and basically I’ve become terrified of dentists. And my sister came to this practice and she said that Patrick was brilliant so I thought I would give it a go. And what I liked about what he said to me was [that] he was saying that he is looking at the fu...nctionality of my teeth, so he’s not just looking at how they look, but he’s looking at how they work and that was more important to me at my age than anything else. I’d lost a lot of teeth, [a lot] had been taken out, and what I’m having done, and today is my last go, I’m having new teeth being put in and the teeth here are all gone, I have a bridge and they’re going to be replaced, and this tooth that sticks right out, he is removing that today and putting a little bridge on that. So, it’s going to be fabulous to be able to bite and chew and not be terrified because he’s so good.
The benefits since having the treatment means that I can eat more easily, my gums are in much better condition and I’m feeling much more confident with my mouth.
I’d recommend the practice to others because I feel that especially for nervous patients they understand it’s something you can’t help, it’s not something you are being silly about, it’s a genuine phobia, a genuine fear, so I feel that from that point of view they are brilliant, but also because they know what they are doing and they do it very well.”

This patient was missing both upper first premolars. Chris Charles replaced them with implants and restored with ceramic crowns.
