Sad lose of one of our local authors. "Stig of the Dump" was inspired by the local landscape of chalk quarries in the Medway valley.

For those of you who have books to dispose of, here are a few guidelines.
We buy some books, part-exchange others and accept donations.
Basically we accept hardback non-fiction, the older and more specialist the better,* plus illustrated, and childrens books. Also we are interested in old paperbacks(Penguin,Sci Fi, pulp etc 1970s and earlier). Ordnance survey maps are also something we will consider. Hardback literature/fiction Folio Society editions, and fine bindings.
... Some definite no-nos are: sets of encyclopaedias, bound magazines/part works, Victorian bibles in poor condition, fiction book club editions (Book Club Associates, Reprint Society etc), Readers Digest condensed novels, Readers Digest non-fiction publications, (except the one on British folklore), Modern hardback fiction (unless they are first editions preferably signed), modern paperback fiction.
* some examples - Kent/local history, military, maritime, archery, natural history, fashion, photographers, falconry, beekeeping, motorbikes, old trade catalogues, village histories, Greek/Roman classics, mythologies.
If in doubt, please call the shop on 01634 811651 for advice.

We welcome locals and visitors from all corners of the world who choose to browse our stock, however for those who cannot physically visit us, we list a few thousand titles online. Abebooks, Alibris and Biblio are our preferred sites, which you can "browse" our catalogued stock. We also list on Amazon, but you cannot browse our stock on there, so please use the other 'proper' book sites. By all means look for books on these sites and order via them, but you can always give us a call and buy over the phone.

Rochester isn't just Baggins - there's much more. A weekend break in our wonderful historic city should be considered.

Visited a few weeks back when in Rochester; my sister had told me about the place, and blimey, I wasn't disappointed! A true bookshop - picked-up a couple of short story collections, but could easily have spent all day there. HIGHLY recommended. A wonderful selection of titles.
