When you wake up in the morning, Pooh," said Piglet at last, "what's the first thing you say to yourself?" "What's for breakfast?" said Pooh. "What do you say, Piglet?" "I say, I wonder what's going to happen exciting today?" said Piglet. Pooh nodded thoughtfully. "It's the same thing," he said.

The best place in Soho to come on your own or with friends
Some people think we're mad or boring because whenever we come to Soho we end up here. We love it, we love the food, we love the atmosphere, we love the cocktails (especially the porn star martinis) and we love the staff.....and we earn points on our loyalty card so why go anywhere else!
Pedro will you marry me ? . Unbelievable coffee and out of this world food x
Just moved to soho always lovely food and good service and dog friendly with my little dog will back
I always eat here when at Westfield Stratford City, Charming service and their willingness to change the menu items if they have the ingredients is unrivalled. The waiters and management are exceptional. I’ve never had any problems there .
Food was great we went for pre theatre meal and was great for the money good portions and great staff would recommend to anybody
Eggs benedfict in Soho, what better
Balans Café, Old Compton's Street is my favourite place to eat in London open 24/7 with a welcoming staff, clientele & atmosphere where you can sit chat with friends or meet new ones or work away on your laptop. This is a soho gem, a piece of the city which Is a must visit! With in hurried service your able to relax and take in the atmosphere.
As always when I visit london me and my partner come here as its one of our favourite spots and the food is delicious and the atmosphere is perfect. Love coming here and always look forward to coming back!
Amazing vibe and fantastic food. I’ve been eating at Balans for over 20 years and still love it as much as I did the first time I ate there! I highly recommend!
Always a winner of the best night out for food and drinks and chat. I have been going to Balans Cafe for years and have watched it change over time with refurbs and the more recent change of the extension. The staff are lovely, friendly and welcoming. Defo a 5/5 for me all the way. Thank you Balans Cafe Soho for all the fab years and continue to be fabulous.
Always a pleasure and great food every time I have ever visited. Breakfast is just so good. 👍🏾🤗
Always a nice experience. Staff are very friendly. And the coffee is very good.
I thought it was great! Not cheap but hey it’s not going to be....fab English Breakfast.
In the heart of Soho and the heart of gay. Classic brunch spot. Staff are always friendly. Great place to sip a coffee and watch the world go by. The food is a little pricey but it’s fine. This is not fine dining. It is what it is. A cafe. Enjoy the good vibe.
I like it!
So disappointed. Came to have a lunch with my partner. Ordered fresh greipfruit juice with lots of ice and regular coke and steak with eggs for both of us. One medium, one well done. Drinks arrived, my juice was without any ice, my partner's coke was diet. No problem. They changed his drink. Food arrived....old potatoes definitely not from today, my steak was well done and my partner's steak was so dry and hard that it was definitely done the night before. Totally disappointed. We asked the manager to get us the bill for drinks. Bill arrived for diet coke, regular coke and Juice plus of course service at 12,5%. Asked again for a new bill. Still arrived with service charge and the manager couldn't care less. If you want your customers to return you definitely have to up the game and make sure your food is fresh and staff properly trained. Complete let down. Now we are in Vapiano which at least has fresh food.
We have visit led here for years but the last 12 months have really gone downhill - recently we visited for breakfast with our 24 year old daughter and her partner but they didn’t want a full English so opted for soft boiled eggs with white toast (good old eggs and soldiers) however when they come they came hard and presented in expresso cups not the traditional egg cups - for god sake it’s an English eatery in England so you would expect the kitchen to stock the basic essentials - think our visits will be very rare from now on unless they up their game and get back on the ball - the walls are decorated very well but there are the odd holes and nails that make the place look very unkept - they then have the cheek to add in a service charge when we weren’t at all happy with the service or the discussing eggs that they served - also why has this place substituted white crusty bread for sour bread Yuk!!!
Oooops.... I sat down on a fairly quiet post lunchtime Friday for a sandwich, coffee and to get stuck into my book. The waitress informed me that "we give 30 minute time slots", I replied "I'm sorry i don't understand" (thinking this was a 30 min wait for food). "You may stay at the table for 30minutes" was the answer. I quickly informed them I was going somewhere else.
Note to owner: a coffee shop is a place Where you can relax, read, chat, I've never heard of this practice and suggests you have got the wrong end of the stick. Interestingly Nero across the road was full and Balans cafe was pretty much empty. Go figure!!!
Sad demise of the only reason I went to Compton St. Me thinks your sights on your bank balance have overridden common sense.
Am posting this on my wall too.
I have to give the restaurant a 1, not because of the food-that was great , but the state of the bathroom facilities. I would have expected a nightclub at 4 in the morning to have bathrooms in a similar state, not Balan’s at 18:00 in the evening. Shocking condition!
