Bales Ash Campsite

About Bales Ash Campsite

A little Green Campsite in the heart of North Devon. Near beaches and Exmoor National Park. Powerful showers, compostable toilets. Fire pits. Dog friendly.

Bales Ash Campsite Description

Bales Ash Campsite sits above the Taw Valley in beautiful North Devon countryside with views across to Exmoor providing complete escape from the pace of modern life. We offer relaxed camping in two beautiful sprawling fields for just a few weeks each year. We welcome all types of tents, small camper vans, awnings and even the odd gazebo or event shelter. Sit and chat around the communal firepit or just enjoy gazing at the stars and experience the complete stillness of being away from it all. Bales Ash is a place to chill out and get in touch with the other side of you.

Take a cosy winter break at Bales Ash. Lovely rural or beach walks and lots of good pubs nearby. Light the wood burner and settle down in front of the smart TV with a film or boxed set, all in the peace of the beautiful North Devon countryside. User

We have a new arrival at Bales Ash today. Meet gorgeous Humphrey our new rabbit. He is a one year old rescue and is hoping to find somebunny to join him soon!

User

What a lovely friendly campsite. Hot clean showers, clean toilets (wasn't sure what to expect with a composting loo but they were far superior to portaloos that I have used at an event that I organise and they don't smell either!).

Whatever you do, don't eat the cake (yep you can buy cake and cream teas here too) ... only because you'll want more and you need to leave some for other campers to try

Even when it was busy it was still a quiet site.

Shame the weather wasn't fantastic for us but that is one thing none of us can organise.

If we camp down Devon way again we will try this site first.

Thank you ladies for having us, we had a lovely week (and the lemon drizzle never made it to the tent )

User

What a great place,we loved it but our dog was in heaven not having to be kept on his lead, running free, will definitely be returning, many thanks for having us,shame we didn’t see you at the show, hope you had a great day

User

Well where do I start... you will not find a better more inviting campsite in the south west.

Bales Ash completely took care of me and my 30+ guests at their site including going over and beyond as we are all a bit fake campers

Every single person and dog were safe, happy, dry, fed, walked and all because of their assistance throughout our stay.

5 stars truly isn't enough

Thank you Bales Ash! Hopefully see you next year!

User

We stayed in the beach hut for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it!! It was clean, quiet, in a beautiful location and was so unique! Perfect for a romantic get away or to take the family on a different adventure. Also the facilities where incredible and I had a lovely hot shower every morning. Highly recommended.

User

We have just spent two nights here and will definitely be back. Booked a cream tea to celebrate our arrival and were spoilt rotten with china tea cups and a huge selection of tea pots! The whole site has been designed with a luxurious festival feel, hot showers, compost toilets and fire pit to hire or a communal one to gather around. Facilities are spotless, the field is beautifully mown with amazing views across the valley. Nothing has been too much trouble, we have been given such a warm welcome that leaving is quite tricky. We don't really want to share our special find but want others to enjoy the experience too! Thank you Anne, Debbie, Caro and P for sharing your site and home with us.

User

We have just got home from a perfect couple of days Glamping at Bales Ash Campsite. We stayed in one of the beautiful Bell Tents and had a wonderful, relaxing time. We were so impressed with all the personal touches like the hot water bottles in our tent and all the kitchen equipment. Everything we needed was there which took all the stress out of camping with two little ones. The owners were so welcoming and have thought of everything, they even took the time to help us with our camp fire. We would love to go back and would highly recommend Thank you for a great stay x

User

This is such a little gem. We stayed in the beech hut which is just beautiful. The owners of the site are so lovely and go over and above what you would expect by miles. If you are in any doubt about booking don't be, it's very special here.

User

The most perfect spot! Our first family camp and the owners could not do more for us. We had room to fly kites, run wild or sit and chill in the sunshine or round the fire. The pitch numbers are low and well spaced, no camping city here ! A perfect place to relax and get away from it all ! My parents stayed in Doris, a comfortable and beautiful trailer tent ( well it was so much more than your average trailer tent!!) oh and wonderful hot showers! cant wait to come back!

User

Returned on Sunday after a three day camping break with friends and 4 children. Nothing to fault, all facilities brilliant, we were especially impressed with the children's reading tent packed with great books. All staff on site were really welcoming and accommodating. We will definitely be returning in future, and will highly recommend to anyone! See you next time! X

User

Just stayed in the Beech hut for our mini-honeymoon. It was wonderful! Really cosy and comfy, the lovely ladies running the site were as great as ever (we've camped here before). We will be back next year (unless we can squeeze in a camping trip sooner than that!).

User

Just returned from a weekend at Bales Ash with my husband and friends. It was absolutely faaaaaantastic. Loved everything about it. Anne and Debbie are brilliant and have put so much thought into everything. The yurt and bell tents are just lovely and the facilities are great. So much space! Can't wait to return

User

Just returned from a night at Bales Ash and can confirm that it is our new favourite local camp site! We were impressed by the very friendly and welcoming owners, the cleanliness of the entire site, gorgeous countryside views and the great atmosphere. Little touches like plenty of hooks on the back of the shower room door, fire pits to hire for just £3 per stay, good recycling facilities and excellent hot showers make all the difference. We really can't wait to come back and bring our friends! Thanks Ann and Debbie :-)

User

Just got back from this beautiful, peaceful campsite!! First time camping out with the dogs ( this site is very dog friendly ) and they loved every minute of it,loved the fact we could have a camp fire to enjoy in the evening after a long day walking. The on site shop has every essential you need and the don't be put off by the loo's as they are much more hygienic and cleaner than your average! The Staff were lovely, welcoming, nothing was too much trouble, from the lovely hot showers to the little bunny rabbits, all in all one of the best camp sites we have visited by far!!

Sadly I have work tomorrow or we would have booked up for just one more night for nature at its best! Already planning and looking ahead for booking up for next year........thank you to the staff/owners for making our family ( dogs included ) welcome,

User

Just got back from a two night stay with another family. Great site :) it was the first time I have ever enjoyed camping. If you're looking for clean showers, friendly owners and lots of open space, this is the place

User

Just got back from 6 nights camping here and it was great!

There is plenty of room to pitch your tent on the lovely flat field. The facilities are good with composting toilets and clean showers. You can hire a fire pit and buy logs on site for those essential nights watching the stars. The little cabin shop sells marshmallows for toasting as well as wonderful homemade cakes.

The owners are really friendly and they're happy to recommend days out and places to eat.

Overall this is a great campsite for peace and quiet where you can enjoy the simple pleasures of camping.

User

Just back from a surprise trip from my partner for my birthday, we stayed for 3 nights in AnnaBelle and it was just perfect. We sat with a fire outside looking at the stars at night and our 5 month old puppy loved having his freedom and playing with the other dogs. The facilities are great and fully equipped with almost everything you need. I've recommended to all my family and friends and I hope we will be back again, thank you so much xx

User

Had a wonderful time with my daughter. The beech hut is a beautiful place to stay with everything you need for a comfortable stay. It was very clean and the owners are very lovely. We had a beautiful cream tea too by the lovely Debbie. Overall a fantastic place for a superb price and it's dog friendly. We will definitely be back again next year.

User

Cannot tell you how much I love this campsite! Having not been camping for a good 10 years, (scout days) apart from the odd festival I was so nervous having to pick and campsite. This campsite is amazing the hosts are so great making it such a personal experience, couldn't believe the facilities so brilliant! Proper showers and compost toilets! Plenty of room between pitches! Fire pits available to rent and logs available to buy so everything is so easy! 100% want to return when the weather is a bit better! Having someone come and offer you a cuppa after a very rainy and windy evening is just the cherry on the top! Brilliant campsite cannot express how much I enjoyed it! ⛺️ thank you bales ash X

User

Came twice last year. Once on our own in Bluebell and once with our little girl in Eppie the yurt. Coming back again this year and can’t wait xx
