Welcome to The Bandit Mugger & Thief. Stripped back to its industrial roots, and very much at the beating heart of the Village community.

Bandit, Mugger & Thief Description

Welcome to The Bandit Mugger & Thief. Stripped back to its industrial roots, and very much at the beating heart of the Village community, BMT is a drinking and dining experience, uniting the vibrancy of Manchester’s Northern Quarter with the classic charm of Canal Street.

Craft ales, inspired cocktails, artisan coffees and great wines are our speciality. And we have free USB and standard charging points for your phones, laptops and tablets, which means you can keep yourself entertained for more hours than you can keep track of. The only things we don’t have are showers and beds, so unfortunately, we do have to send you home at the end of the day!

Another wonderful soul has been lost. Someone who we were close to, and someone who always supported us through everything. Today is a sad day and this is a huge loss. We will miss you very much. Love and thoughts to Alex and Si's family. Rest peacefully Si xx

It is with a very sad and heavy heart that we are sorry to announce the closure of Bandit Mugger & Thief.
We had hoped that someone would be taking the bar over from next week, but that has sadly fallen through at the last minute. No doubt someone will take over the premises some time in the future.
We'd like to thank all the amazing customers, performers and staff, who have all been so loyal to us and just brilliant. We're sorry to all of you that we couldn't make it work.
... Sunday will be our last day and we will be closing with Gorgeous Sundays from 8pm. Come along and say bye to us. We'd love to see you.
Thank you all again x

We went here for our work Christmas Meal. From start to finish the whole experience was brilliant. When I contacted the manager to book he was more than helpful and on the night we all had a great meal and evening. The staff were attentive, friendly and quick even though there were 26 of us. The food was lovely, came to the table hot & tasty. Thank-you.

User

We held our Mummy Manfords Comedy Night in aid of Beechwood Cancer Care Centre last night 20/4/16 here. The bar and the staff were amazing! The bar was well stocked, the staff was efficient and very friendly and helpful! This is definitely a place to hold your event! Plenty of convenient car parking space near by, great location!

The room, stage and bar looked fantastic!

A massive Thank You to the manager Edward Breadner and all your staff for a fantastic night

The Northern Quarter has hit Canal Street! This bar not only looks gorgeous, but is providing a stunning Italian tapas menu. Vegetarians and vegans rejoice! The menu here is diverse and mouth watering ... I recommend the gnocchi. The staff are fun and welcoming. A great place to eat, chill with a coffee or get involved with the various evening events. Fantastic.

User

Popped into bandit this week for some dinner with friends. As usual service is great atmosphere is on the money and the food fantastic.

Must say we've been here a few times now and they have never failed to deliver. On our last visit a drink was missed from our large party however this was rectified instantly by their helpful staff...... We were a large group.......it was busy..... We are all human .....mistakes happen......No drama..... not the end of the world.

Will certainly be returning to this wonderful venue. Especially on a sunday for the quiz as miss blair has us in stitches

User

Our party of five, three vegans and two omnivores went to Taurus this evening for a three course meal, we all chose the vegan menu. Honestly, the food was fabulous. Packed with flavour on every course. It is so good to have a vegan menu available, even our omni friends loved the food and didn't feel like they'd missed out by not having any meat or dairy. The staff took great care of us, the drinks were great and we all left sated and very happy we had chosen Taurus for our gathering. Can't wait to go back. Thank you. xx

User

Only recently started visiting Taurus but i can say it's quickly becoming one of my favourite place in the village, everyone from the bar staff to the drag queen s to even the security we really friendly and are always willing to help in any way they can (I am a wheelchair user and I can't thank them enough for how much they accommodate for anything i need) if u havent already please come and check the place out xx

User

Just been in for a catch up with friends, I have to say I've had one or two disappointing experiences but the new menu is fabulous. We us the cheese and meat sharing platter, just delicious. Great service too. Thanks guys x

User

I was an organisor of a bear beer crawl yesterday and we started out in Taurus and i have to say the service from all was amazing, we were made to feel welcome and we got great offer on food which again was lovely , i highly recommend this a place to come for drink, food and a good time... thanks again

User

I took some out of town work colleagues along to one of the Cheese & Wine nights, and it was fabulous! All of my party had a great time, thought the selection of drinks was great, the staff were friendly and the venue decor was fresh & modern. I thoroughly recommend the venue and cannot wait to go back again!

User

I have to say, pre re-brand as Taurus, this establishment was always up there in terms of the food, drinks, service and staff.

Fast forward to now as Bandit, mugger & thief and it is better still. The decor is cosmopolitan and modern, the staff are warm and the food/drink choices have been transformed from decent to excellent. Further to that, the quality of the food and drink is second to none.

I have read some negative reviews on here, and it would hurt any buisness and its staff to read those. I would encourage anyone who has had a negative experience here to give the place one more try, because I have always had good experiences with the place, all of my friends alike. Re-brands can be tough work and I feel that the management have worked hard to get this place to where they want it to be.

I will just finish by saying that the bar has been set for the village! It needs more places like this! Keep up the good work guys, I will continue to be of custom as long as I am around! It's not a place for dancing granted (there is a bit of comedy and drag over the course of a week though!)...but it oozes some much lacking class in the area.

User

I had my first meal there on Friday since the rebrand from Taurus Bar and Kitchen. The food was great and really good value for money. The staff were polite and very friendly.

This is my favourite place to eat on Canal Street, and I highly recommend it.

User

Clean friendly bar, good simple food, great prices alcohol and menu. Customer focused staff. Music a little loud for mid afternoon but I could live with it. Definitely one of the better bars on a frayed and mildly grubby Canal St.

User

Although I moved to Manchester over four years ago now, I never really was involved very much in the village and the nearby area until I met the owners and the staff at Bandit. Albeit under a different name originally the place has really become a home for me in Manchester.

I worked there for over a year as a server, bartender and then manager and since leaving in April 2016 have visited very often since.

My visits are the result of meeting some of the best people I have met in the city since moving here. The owners are some of the nicest people I have ever met and the staff they have hired since their original opening in April 2015 and since the recent rebrand match that perfectly.

The staff are friendly, hard working and go well out of their way to welcome people to the venue. The menu itself and the events they hold there have gone from strength to strength and continue to improve all the time, too.

Take it from me; some of the things you may read on here do this venue and it's team absolutely no justice.

Well worth a visit ❤️

User

Loved this place as Taurus and we were regular visitors here for many years. Took us a bit by surprise when it was sold and taken over by new owners. But they've done a great job in updating the place but making sure it doesn't lose the friendly atmosphere. The staff are really great and it's one of the few remaining "attitude free" places on Canal St

User

I went on Sunday because I liked the name. The venue looked nice and despite the fact I was tired and slightly drunk I was treated very nicely by all of the staff.

I had the Sunday Roast, the portion was quite generous but the food itself wasnt great. In fact I was largely disappointed with the food

I drank a cocktail though which was very nice.

Overall this was getting 3* however I forgot my bag when I left so one of the staff walked down the street to give me it which was very nice of them so Im giving it a 4.

Im going to give the food another try sometime and maybe pop in when Cheddar is doing her act.

User

First time here since the change from

Taurus. Staff great, will definitely come back and try the hot food once kitchen back in operation. Owner (if he's the beardy chap who served our first drinks) woof!

User

Was quite disappointed yesterday when I purposely rang at 8.05pm to make sure we could have a table before the kitchen closed, turned up 5 minutes later only to be told the kitchen had been closed 30 mins earlier than the member of staff had told me, this was apparently due to there only being one chef on a busy night. Therefore we had to leave and find another place to eat. It is such a shame, because the last two times we came to the bar, it was brilliant, great service and food. It would be a good idea to have more staff in on busy periods, it's never to turn returning customers away, especially when we rang to make sure we could have a table! We are now weary of coming back when it is busy.

User

What an awful place!

As it appears in previous ratings cold food food was the dish of the day, amongst other things.

Advertised starter: garlic flat bread

Reality starter: pitta bread with cheese and a ridiculous amount of tomato ketchup- so much so you couldn't taste anything else

30-40 min wait for mains to arrive (just as one of my friends was about to complain)

2 meals (the Christmas dinners) arrive stone cold, not once but twice (after complaining and they go to heat it up in a microwave - management will deny this but bar staff admitted it)

Only reason they have 2 stars is because they knocked the drink of the bill and the two meals that were awful. Manager tried to say he was knocking 50% off the bill, when in fact that money was coming off already for Monday madness.

Awful food and poor service! Avoid at all costs

User

This place used to be good, went yesterday for dinner, asked if they had room and they kept a table. Staff were very friendly as usual, but once we sat down there was literally no service. I had to go and ask for food menus, which when we read we're still breakfast menu with another showing a selection of cold meat and cheese and a small range of pizzas.

As no staff had come to ask us if we wanted drinks or to order we asked at the bar why the menu was so strange, the response was that they were short staffed so would have to order at the bar ourselves and the menu was all they could offer.

Very disappointed with the lack of preparation here and while I appreciate stuff like this can happen, it can also be avoided with good management.

I can't comment on the quality of anything as we never actually got served so left and went to Via.
