The Bannister Opticians story started way back in 1939 when Austen’s father opened his first Optical practice in the Sutton Coldfield area. Following in his footsteps, Austen graduated from Aston University in 1979 and after working in Bristol for a year, moved back to the West Midlands to continue the story with both his brother and his father.

The Knowle practice was opened in 1980 and Austen’s time was spent working across both locations. In 1987, he took full control of the Knowle practice and rapidly began to strengthen and increase the client lists. In 1993, another Bannister practice was opened in Birmingham City Centre at City Plaza which was one of the very first ‘designer’ opticians within the city and soon became a success attracting media attention due to involvement in major fashion shows within the area.

During this time, Austen was also appointed as Club Optician to both Aston Villa Football Club and Warwickshire County Cricket Club as well as providing specialist optical care to one of the city’s largest manufacturers at the time, HP Foods.

The focus is now solely on the Knowle practice and it’s popularity and range of services is increasing year upon year. The practice is easily accessible due to it’s central Knowle location and the selection of fully qualified staff members ensure that you are well cared for every time you visit us.
