Sometimes you just want something fabulous so you can stand out from the crowd. A big event is coming up – your Gran’s 90th, your son’s graduation, a festival, your 40t a wedding, or even a divorce?! You deserve to treat yourself to something just that bit special and different. Well, here we are. Fabulous accessories for special events, Barbary Lane.
Brighton has been party capital of the UK for hundreds of years, ever since the Prince Regent found somewhere just to be himself, and indulge in a spot of dressing up, several bottles and the odd roast peacock.
This shop is definitely not for shrinking violets – Strictly No Beige. But we can provide a cavalcade of colourful characterful accessories if you want to practice rocking purple, or turquoise, yellow, green, orange or fuchsia…. Even the odd bit of black for those with darker hearts. We can make you smile. We can drape you in top-to-toe fabulousness, but don’t worry, we can do subtle(ish) too. Classy silk handkerchiefs, mother-of-pearl topped walking sticks, designer scarves with just enough pizzazz to bring life to a classic suit. Then there are the waistcoats, oh, and oh boy, the craziest fascinators, dashing hats, statement and designer jewellery for all genders. And the wearable art, kimonos and peacock angel wings. Have I mentioned the feather boas? Or the party decorations? Oh…AND the 11 litre cocktail fountain for hire.
Most of our stuff is made by individual designers and artisans from all over the UK and further afield. A lot is one-off, limited edition or bespoke. We are really proud of the makers, and can tell you all about them.
We also have exciting plans for the future. We hope to start small workshops for customising fascinators and hats, fans and masks. And glam make-over lessons. But we want to hear from you about what you want, and what Brighton needs. So come and celebrate and create with us. We can’t wait!
