STRENGTH TRAINING

Strength training can be defined as coordination training with appropriate resistance (for the activity you are preparing for and for the individual) to handle bodyweight, project an implement, move or resist movement of another body, resist gravity, and optimise ground reaction forces. Strength training has many benefits to performance as well as general health and wellbeing including; increased muscular strength, improved posture and body mechanics, management /prevention of chronic diseases and conditions, improved balance and coordination, improved psychological state, weight management, maintenance /development of bone health and muscle mass.

Think you're strong? Why not give powerlifting a try?

POWERLIFTING

Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three disciplines; the squat, bench press and deadlift. In competition each lifter has three attempts at each discipline, the sum of the heaviest weight successfully completed in each of the squat, bench press and deadlift is their total. Athletes are split into classes depending on age and weight, the athlete with the highest total in each class wins. In many competitions they also have awards for the best overall lifters (usually by gender and /or age) calculated by a coefficient.
