Barking Birth Centre Newham Description
The Barking Birth Centre is a freestanding NHS Birth Centre run my Midwives. We care for low risk women ad their families, looking to have their babies in an out of hospital environment. We are part of Newham Hospitals four options of birth place choice. We also facilitate and promote Homebirth in the area and our four Homebirth midwives are based at the birth centre.
The Centre which has been open for two years has supported over 400 hundred births, promotes natural active birth, and supports and encourages waterbirth. We pride ourselves in making the centre a home from home environment, where mums can stay with their birthing partner overnight and not feel rushed to go home.
We accept women not just in the Newham area but also from out of the area to birth with us. We feel our mums are supported through pregnancy and labour and the postnatal period, with midwives they recognise and bond with, allowing them to feel safe and relaxed.
Facilities include Waterbirth Pools, Active Birth Equipment to assist you to stay mobile in labour, Birthing Balls, Double Beds, Private Bathroom and Free Parking!
Some of our women feel that they would prefer to have their baby in the comfort of their own home. The birth centre is a base for our Homebirth midwives. If you would like to see the same midwife throughout your pregnancy, the Homebirth midwives 'caseload' their clients, meaning you will see the same midwife from 25 weeks onwards. The midwife will carry out the majority of your check ups in the home, bringing all equipment to the woman in her labour, clearing up and seeing her at home for all her post natal check ups. This service allows mum to feel relaxed, safe and surrounded by her own home comforts at this important time of birthing her new baby, in her own environment. Waterbirth can also be supported at home.
