The Barnards Miniature Railway is Located on the A128 road between Tilbury and Brentwood, 5 mins from Junction 29 of the M25. The line is currently 1 /2 mile in length ( 1 mile round trip ) and operates a Service between Burton Shaw and Belvedere with Steam locomotives and Heritage Diesels. The line ultimately will be 1 1 /4 miles long finishing at North Barn Station by a lake. The line is single track with passing loops at the station. We are operating the railway this Sunday as part of the Barnards Farm garden open day, Please note there is a Garden Entry fee of £10.00, this allows you access to all the gardens, Car Museum and sculptures. The site opens at 1pm. The railway will be running trains every 20mins from 1.20pm and the last train is 5.20pm. All trains will run from Burton Shaw to Angel Green and return and will not call at intermediate stations, please allow 35 minutes for a round trip. Due to the... ongoing works to double the track we are unable to run as many trains as we would like, therefore we are unable to offer rover tickets and passengers will be booked on set trains at 00, 20 and 40 past each hour, you can either be booked on the next available train or book on a train later in the day so you can enjoy the gardens and turn up without waiting.
Fares are as follows:
Adult return - £6-00 Child return - £5-00 (3-16 year old) Under 3's - Free.
Our next running day which is railway only is on Sunday 7th July.
BMR Team.

Who remembers 'Dereck' the diesel shunter? The locomotive used to run at Barleylands until we aquired it a few years ago, It used to carry a brown and cream livery. Just before winter it was withdrawn from service for a well earned overhaul. Dereck has now re-entered service wearing BMR maroon house colours and wasp stripes and is ready to help on the works trains and lighter passenger trains during the season. We have ordered a set of metal nameplates for Dereck to replace his old stickers.. A treat for an unsung hero of our railway!

You may have seen our 7 1/4" gauge locomotive 'Britannia' at the BMR, Here is an interesting short film about the full size engine and how she got her name!

All change at Belvedere! Work is continuing with the double track project, including the installation of a bay platform to allow us to run shuttle trips from Burton Shaw on special events.

Work is being undertaken on the Angel Green line to bring it back up to passenger standard, it had to be closed mid season last year due to buckled track and ground movement, the opportunity has also been taken to ease the gradient slightly to help the engines on the climb. The line will reopen when the rest of the railway reopens in June.... here's to a smooth ride!

Lots of works going on during the closure period of the line, here we see work on the new double track section, when complete will it will allow us greater operating flexibility and help ease any waiting times on busy days.

The first Mardyke BR MK3 coach left the paint shop today in its new livery. It now requires decals, glazing, seats and new brakes. Another 10 to follow!

The first time all four of our Exmoor built locomotives have been photographed together on our railway since they arrived. Jeremy, Jean, Doris Hilburn and Amy Louise. They will all see service during 2019 and hopefully a special day when all 4 will be in steam and working the service together* (tba). * Subject to completion of vacuum brake fitting.

Fancy trying something different this year? Why not come and volunteer at Barnards Miniature Railway. No previous experience necessary. We meet each week to work on the railway, and operate the railway on running days. Any questions, feel free to message us we would love to hear from you

The latest Locomotive to join the BMR Locomotive fleet is 'Amy Louise' and she arrived today! She is the 4th Exmoor Locomotive at the railway now and is a proven and powerful design perfect for our challenging railway. She came from the Brookside railway where Jeremy and Jean once operated. She will be in operation during the 2019 season.
