Visited with a friend on the 16th around 6pm, the two staff working were brilliant throughout the night, our meals were lovely, hot and after looking at reviews and thinking we were in for a wait we were pleasantly surprised - our starters arrived around 15 minutes after ordering and our mains followed shortly after our plates were cleared. Nice to see there is a dog friendly area too!

User

It appears to be under new management!!

A new look and friendly feel to the place. Food was served fast and hot and young chap behind the bar was very friendly. We will be back soon :)

User

Came in the other day for a meal with my partner the lad behind the bar was amazing had me laughing at the bar and my cocktail was great thank you tim and the small strawberry blonde man don’t know his was friendly and made us feel so welcome the pork belly was so nice and my boyfriend mix grill was beautifully cooked

User

Ate here yesterday for the first time, food was excellent and delivered quickly. the staff are so friendly and accommodating, I highly recommend it.

User

I sometimes go in at lunchtime for a meal and occasionally in the evenings,

Friendly staff and a great service too, the food is lovely.

I will be going in again next week.

User

Lovely pub..food very average. Had a starter then waited almost 30mins for my main course & chips were almost cold. Could understand if it was busy but it was almost empty at the time. They were very apologetic when I mentioned it & offered to get me some more but I didn't fancy waiting again.

User

Took my nan for lunch, sign at the door just said to find a table and order at the bar.

After finally deciding (which took a little time) the staff advised of a 50 minute wait!!

We didn’t stay as 50 minutes is a little excessive for some soup and a prawn cocktail!

A little notice before we wasted our time there would have been greatly appreciated.

User

Place was almost empty of customers so assumed we'd be ok for our meal as it was only about 5.30. Had to wait for a good while at the bar to order our initial drinks. Looked at the menu and chose to have the set meal of 2 courses so I asked for 2 fish & chips and 2 Apple pie and custard (no Apple pie left!) Waited ages, as did another couple, when it did arrive there was no butter with the bread and 'butter'! Again waited ages for our dessert. Had to ask at the bar for it as did the other couple and just to top it off the cappuccino arrived with no sugar. So many tables not cleared. Very bad Impression.

User

Food OK - service terrible, after waiting 45 mins after ordering it then took 30 mins to serve food to 7 people - so by the time the 7th person received food the 1st person had finished no apologies or explanation. After waiting 30 mins for our puddings we cancelled the order & left. You need more staff & your staff need training in customer service as their attitude was disgraceful.

User

Very poor service today. Arrived at 12, ordered food straight away. We were told several things were off the menu, which is is fine, so we ordered an alternative. 10 minutes later we were told the alternative was also off the menu. 30 minutes later the manager came over and said that three other things were unavailable. At this point we had been waiting 45 minutes for our food. We put in a new order, but 30 minutes later we still had no food. Several other tables were served in the mean time. The least we would have expected would be for our meal to be put through first. It took over an hour and 15 minutes for the food to arrive. The manager did apologise but they were obviously very short staffed.

User

To cut it short- no sunday roasts on a sunday. Food all came out seperately on the table so we didnt eat together. Was waiting for peppercorn sauce for 15 mins. So had to take food away because it had gone cold. Didn't give a new steak- re-heated old one so ended up well done instead of medium. Meals generally were cold, very poor quality, extremely bad service. They said they would bring some hot chips out which never came. Other tables were also complaining. We got our money back for all our food. The man who gave us our refund was very nice. Clearly some major issues at this place. Whilst processing our refund, one of the kitchen staff quit and walked out crying. Go somewhere else- ruined a lovely sunday meal out with family.

User

Shockingly commical, it was like Fawlty Towers last night - half of the menu (literally) was unavailable, reserved a table which they hadn't reserved on arriving, nachos arriving without stated toppings and a glass with lipstick on the rim given to us - have I missed anything out besides both waking up with stomach bugs....

User

Shocking! Service was appalling - over an hour and a half wait for mains. Sent food back as it looked as if it was cooked the day before and reheated. Mixed grill overcooked and full of salt. Beef dripping gravy which was really good the week before tasted and looked like watery Bisto. Prawn cocktail swimming in vinegar like sauce and mixed with tomatoes served with dry wholegrain bread. Booked as a family meal for my dad's 70th birthday but won't be going back again. Felt bad for the waiting staff as it wasn't their fault but all the customers were complaining to them and they were trying their best. Down to very poor management staff.

User

Really dissapointed. I used to love the barton with its beautiful surroundings and friendly staff, however my recent experiences have been really disappointing. Today my partner and i went for dinner, and chose from the evening set menu. After waiting 35 minutes for our starter i asked a manager if their was a wait for food, i was told yes up to forty minutes, if we had been told this when we ordered we would have gone elsewhere. Our starter finally arrived and i was bewildered. We were served dry lettuce leaves covered in salad cream with a splash of cheese, this was being passed off as cesar salad. We complained and decided to get a refund and go elsewhere. Our refund was processed and at no time were we asked why we wanted a refund or if our problem could be fixed. Unfortunately another great pub thats lost its way.

User

Just popped in here for late lunch. Not been in for a while and then remembered why, the wait!

After just over 45 minutes I received my cooked to a crisp extra dry Gammon with its handful of frozen chips and 2 hard fried eggs. Hmmmm well worth the wait. Very poor value for money and even worse cooking . Wouldn't feed it to a dog springs to mind. Of which there were plenty around to have given it too. Last time we will be stepping foot inside

User

Great for a drink and atmosphere, but eat somewhere else. You wait forever, and then when the food arrives its just.....ordinary... nothing special, and certainly doesn't reflect the price. Stay for a drink and a chill but eat somewhere else....

User

Been here a few times to eat and it’s always been lovely.

Came as a party of 9 it wasn’t busy so no excuse for the way our food was served, Cold and missing half the food.

3 of us ordered the same, they came out missing the mushrooms, peas and tomato and the whole meal was cold. The waiters- bar staff were very nice and helpful and couldn’t apologise enough. Dylan and Mick. Shame a member of the management-team could not of been more helpful or even acknowledged what was going on.

Won’t be returning. We had heard bad reviews lately however thought we’d try for ourselves. Very poor

User

Ate there yesterday with 2 friends and 2 children. It was very very busy and as we hadn't seen each other for some time we were looking forward to a lovely meal in good surroundings and a great catch-up. Everything started off well and we ordered drinks and had a nice table.Due to it being so busy and there only being 2 members of staff on duty we had to queue for quite a long time to order and at 1325 we sat down chatting and looking forward to our food having ordered 2 starters, 3 mains, 1 dessert and 2 children's meals.

UNFORTUNATELY everything went completely downhill from there and as someone who works in the hospitality industry I along with my companions were decidedly unimpressed. The 2 starters arrived fairly quickly after around 10min and it was then we asked where the children's meals were (these had been requested to come alongside the starters). We were given an apology and the server went off presumably to speak to the kitchen staff. By 1450, 1.5hrs after ordering we STILL hadn't received the children's meals or any of the other meals and made several requests asking how long it would be. Nobody came back to us with any answers and we were getting decidedly disgruntled. There were several large families around us and they too were becoming impatient with the wait and lack of communication- 2 tables requested refunds and walked out in disgust. Suddenly 1 of the main meals arrived albeit fairly cold but still no children's meals. My friend ate this and we all thought that ours would be coming. Nope we were wrong and by 1515 almost 2 hrs after ordering and numerous complaints 1 more meal came out alongside the 2 children's meals finally. At this point I was still waiting for my meal and decided to go up to the bar and cancel it to be told that it was just being plated up. I made it known that we were decidedly unhappy with the lack of communication. We were told that when we ordered we should have been told there was a wait if up to 1 hour, we weren't told this and anyway we weren't waiting an hr we were waiting well over 2 hours. We were given a refund and decided there and then we wouldn't be returning, a shame as we have eaten there before and always enjoyed it.

We felt sorry for the poor girl who had been drafted in for the day from a different pub whilst the manager was unavailable. She had to take all the flak from disgruntled customers and it wasn't her fault, she was extremely apologetic and was almost in tears at how many refunds she had had to process that afternoon. She admitted that at her pub she had never once had to process a refund! As we were leaving we heard her on the phone to someone (probably her boss) saying just how unhappy people had been and how many refunds there had been.

What should have been a fantastic afternoon spent catching up with old friends instead turned into an afternoon we would rather forget due to appalling communication and service, we definitely will not be returning ever.

User

Absolutely awful, we were greeted by a barmaid who stated she shouldn't be serving alcohol as she had a heavy night last night, not a welcoming family atmosphere and we had been in the pub less than a minute. we ordered food, gammon and a beef roast dinner. the roast had over cooked roast potatoes, under cooked (raw) parsnips, beef full of fat, cold vegetables and dry stuffing. in short it was awful and i didn't eat it, ive seen better in a tesco ready meal, cost £18. On being asked by the landlord how it was, i explained what the problem was, he began to argue that it was perfectly fine then said " what do you want me to do about it?" as i was saying nothing, we just won't be back, he snatched both mine and my partners plates away and walked off, i might add that she had not finished her food. we left without finishing our drinks and will not be back.
