Basing House

About Basing House

Unearth the amazing stories of Basing House, the nationally important ruins and grounds of the largest private house in Tudor England, which suffered at the hands of Oliver Cromwell during the English Civil War.

Basing House Description

Join us at the Visitor Centre, just a 5 min walk along the River Loddon from our free car park. There you'll begin to discover the story of Basing House and see the magnificent Tudor Great Barn which still bares the scars of the Civil War. Walk accross the road and you'll find the ruins of the Old Basing House and see our museum full of interesting artefacts that have been found on site.

Great place for a picnic, especially in our walled garden which features a recreated Jacobean Knot garden and our new 'Lady of the House' garden. Check our What's on section of our website for all the events and workshops we run.
