About Bassingbourn Snowsports Centre

Bassingbourn Snowsports Centre is a 'Not for Profit' snowsports club being run by volunteers who have a passion for all snowsports.

Bassingbourn Snowsports Centre Description

Bassingbourn Snowsports Centre has been located inside Bassingbourn Barracks since the late 1960’s and is a Not for Profit Organisation being run by volunteers who have a passion for all snowsports.

Sadly due to changes in use of the Bassingbourn Barracks, the Ministry of Defense have stopped access to all the clubs on the Barracks.

The club is working to restore access to our facilities.

We regret that in the meantime we are unable to take any bookings for tobogganing parties.

We are able to provide ski lessons at other locations, please email your enquiry bookings@skibass.org

The Centre has two artificial slopes with the longest being 100 metres in length which was recently refurbished and has a button drag lift. Over the last two years volunteers have renovated the ski lodge to include a superb equipment room with new Salomon skis and boots, new toilet facilities including a disabled toilet, dedicated function room for corporate events and birthday parties and an attractive members’ lounge all in keeping with the ski lodge image.

As members will have heard by email yesterday South Cambs have approved planing permission for us to make changes to enable us to access the slope from Guise Lane. It's still a long way from getting us back in but it's a step in the right direction. More on local media today which summarises where we're at. http://www.bbc.co.uk/…/l…/uk-england- cambridgeshire-37262720

As a follower of Bassingbourn Snowsports Centre, we thought you might be interested to know that we have made a planning application which (hopefully) starts the process of our regaining access to the ski slope. You can view our application on South Cambs District Council’s planning portal here.
http://plan.scambs.gov.uk/…/ap…/run/W PHAPPDETAIL.DisplayUrl…
Inevitably, there is some local opposition to the application and although we have been through a consultation process, ...we still may need to appeal the initial decision by the District Council.
If we are to have any hope of success regaining access to the centre, it is important that we gather as much support as possible.
Whilst we don’t want to put words in your mouth, you might consider some of the following:
Encourages exercise Introduces children to sport at an early age Affordable No local alternative Socially inclusive Provides supportive facilities for people with disabilities Friendly staff Supports local charities
Please leave comments via this link.

Many thanks in advance for your support.

Good News from Welwyn!

User

We've been cutting the grass, clearing weeds and having a general tidy up. You'll be pleased to know the matting is in reasonable nick apart from the budlia bushes and the clubhouse is fairly clean and dry. No news yet on getting us back in, but the whole barracks are looking very spruced up and not at all derelict...

We've just heard that the Gosling ski centre at Welwyn is under threat from housing. Please sign the petition - too many dry ski slopes are being lost and this is where grass roots snowsports begin! https://www.change.org/p/gosling-sports-p ark-save-the-ski-s…

I can now pass on the news that a memorial service for Douglas Gray Stephens is to be held on Friday the 14th of November at 11:30 am at Jesus College Chapel in Cambridge. Luncheon will follow, and then all are invited for tea afterwards at Foxfield house, the family home, near Melbourn.
The Club would also like to collect together your memories of Doug. Please post to our Facebook page or email your anecdotes to myself and we'll share them with others at the service and on o...ur website.
Parking is limited at the college, so we recommend car sharing or parking at the nearby Park Street multi storey car-park. If you are planning to attend the service then please could you reply to me with the numbers by 5:00pm Monday 10th to aid with the catering arrangements.
Stuart Payne Chairman Bassingbourn Snowsports Club
Please leave massages in the comments below and we'll make sure they get passed on.

All members should have got an update from the last committee meeting via email. This is a new thing brought in to help keep members updated with how our work to get back to Bassingbourn or build a new slope at Barrington is progressing. If you haven't received it, check your spam folders :)
