Went for a Spa day & treatments with my Mum for a Mothers Day treat.

Spa & staff were fantastic, could not be faulted & loved the outdoors hydro pool very much!

Also had afternoon tea which was also fantastic, beautiful room, attentive, polite, helpful staff & delicious food.

User

We have just spent two nights here celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, can’t fault the hotel at all, the food and the staff in the restaurant are fabulous, the grounds are stunning, easy 10 min stroll into the center of bath

Visiting Bath for a birthday treat we came across this hotel in Secret Escapes. Fantastic price for a night’s stay but irrelevant of price from the greeting we received at reception to the helpful porter who carried our bags to the car it was just wonderful, a stunning building and beautifully maintained grounds to explore. A large sized room and bathroom and because the weather was good we relaxed around the outside heated pool. Delicious simply enormous breakfast selection and again lovely friendly helpful staff. The building like Bath is steeped in history and is furnished to refelect that. We’d definitely stay again!

User

Visited the spa for the first time yesterday and had the best day! Our spa day was fantastic value for money, stunning treatments (meg and Laura?), beautiful hotel and lovely lunch (Julia in the restaurant so lovely)! My friend and I are both therapists ourselves at nearby luxury hotels and were so so impressed by the treatments especially. Would be an absolute pleasure to visit again, many thanks

User

My husband and I returned here this weekend after our last visit 4 years ago. It is one of our favourite hotels and I am pleased that it was just as good as we remembered. The hotel and grounds are stunning. We spent the day in the spa, the outdoor pool is lovely!! I had a lovely back massage and facial. We also had dinner at the hotel and breakfast the next morning. The food was delicious. A wonderful stay and I hope that we will return again soon.

User

Just had the most beautiful deep tissue back massage by Lesley in the spa. One of the best massages I’ve ever had and such good value for money. Would definitely recommend. Thank you Lesley xx

Fantastic, 5 star service! From Concierge, to Reception, to Housekeeping, every member of the team we encountered here was really friendly and helpful, they just couldn't do enough for us and really made our stay memorable and one we will repeat.

Our room was gorgeous. Light, bright and airy with a giant, marshmallow like bed, mineral water, crystal glasses and proper tea cups. Top marks for thoughtful placement of plug sockets too! Perfect for hair drying and overnight phone charging :-) Bathroom large and beautifully decorated. Nice deep tub with soaker head shower and Elemis toiletries plus big, fluffy towels. Air con worked great for us and we could open our windows if we wished.

We ate dinner at a local restaurant but had breakfast here. Again, service was great and well managed. Full English was freshly cooked to order and was good, but the variety and quality of other items was not on par with breakfasts we have had in other hotels and I would have been disappointed if I'd paid the advertised breakfast rate. Lots of lovely places to eat in Bath, less than 10 minutes walk away, though!

Finally, the spa which seems to cause polar opposite reviews...I visited twice during our stay and found it very clean and well equipped. 2 saunas, a steam room, indoor pool, outdoor hotpool, salt room and iceroom plus a great jacuzzi. The tiling around both pools could do with some attention and the showers in the changing room really are quite grotty and need to be brought up to standard urgently. Most people will use these as they leave and they undoubtedly dampen what is otherwise a luxurious and relaxing experience (and prompt some overly critical reviews?).

Beautiful building and grounds and your location and team are absolutely perfect. Thank you for hosting such an enjoyable break in Bath :-)

User

Staff very pleasant and helpful, setting is amazing. Room clean and tidy, lovely views over Bath and gardens. Spa facilities very good. Breakfast was lovely but very sparse. Best sausage and bacon ive had but spot the singular. One bacon, sausage, egg, mushroom and potato rosti. Could have had tomato, beans and black pudding. Breakfast didnt feel very well organised (cold toast and seating was hap hazzard). However, best quality ive had. Hotel is ten minutes walk to roman spas. Steep walk back though. Would recommend, just please, 2 bacon 2 sausage then perfect. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay for our 20th Wedding Anniversary.

User

Came here for a spa day, staff were friendly and very helpful. Changing rooms a little too small, facilities were good though. Had to wait a little while to be seen at the massage reception but the actual treatment was perfect. Must say one member of staff was impeccable, James couldn’t have done more for us during our visit! Would go back if we were visiting Bath again.

User

Was visiting for our 1st Wedding Anniversary so was looking for something special. Overall disappointed with Hotel however loved Bath as an area. First room we were given was very tired and worn, smelt damp and was very dark due to looking out to wall. However we spoke to the lady on reception who very kindly moved us to a twin room with beautiful views over garden and city. Room was also to better standard. Beds comfy and shower lovely. Location great for exploring Bath, 10-15 walk downhill to city centre. Parking charged at £15 which we felt slightly steep based on price of rooms. We decided to have breakfast in room on the first morning but was disappointed with portion size. I’m a vegetarian so not much choice but could have doubled up items to bulk up. We had breakfast in restaurant next day which was better, however still would have expected better from 5* hotel. Spa was the biggest disappointment. When we checked in there was a sign to say the spa pool was shut. Would have been nice to have prior notice of this or at least offer of a drinks voucher. Also jacuzzi not working and sauna/steam rooms really tired and damaged in places. Floor tiles cracked and wobbly around pool area. Staff mostly polite just some areas need improvement to bring up to 5* expectations.

User

Very nice greeting at reception. Allowed to check in early. Room was nice and clean, although view in the garden level room was of the road. Disappointed with the tea and coffee which were the usual packets you have at 2 star hotels. Room service was good and prompt. Breakfast; good selection although the English breakfast was not fully cooked and toast is very pale. Breakfast service from staff was very good and you could not fault them, very attentive. I would definitely stay again, although charging £15 for parking is a little bit rich. Not 5 star more a 3.5 for me.

User

This was are 3rd visit, the first was 10 years ago and amazing, but sadly the hotel has gone down hill from the 5 star service we had back then, we decided to go back for our 10th anniversary (2nd visit)we booked the works, imperial suite with butler service, from the moment we arrived it was a disaster, had booked early check in told to busy to book us in come back later, no one to get bags, no to show us to our room, champagne missing, room mini bar not stocked, no tea, milk, biscuits, damp robes, (wait hour for dry one in a plastic bag) wait 2 hours for steak a tuff steak, it was like a faulty towers episode, on we tried to talk to staff but they were not really interested, and next morning I invited the duty manager to join me for tea/coffee in the drawing room to discuss my list of complaints (which are longer the put here) which she did, we were invited back to stay another weekend so they could get it right,

So when we (3rd visit) arrived early check was effectively sorted, car keys taken so are luggage could be taken to our room, and off to bath we went, got back to hotel hours later got shown to are room by Edward who was lovely, he chatted to us, champagne in room chillied, much better room (still room needed facelift tired) went down to dinner seated and served in a timely manner, lovely young French waiter ( who's name I can't remember) food lovely so much better, I did notice that the dress policy is still not up held, breakfast next morning we effective we had table from night before which still had the stain from the steak board we had made, but all in all so much better, they still have away to go to get back to the 5 star service we had back 10years ago. The sad thing is we have stayed at some of the macdonald 4 stars that are better. But the team at the bath are trying, thank you for being us back,

User

Overpriced with poor service. This hotel is beautiful as are the grounds but this is where it ends. Service in the bar and gardens was non existent although staff we did find we polite just not enough of them. Rooms were a nice size but bit of a route March to reach ours.

User

Over priced and disappointing best describes this hotel.

Corridor and room smelt either damp or musty couldn’t work out which.

Service in the garden area for a drink was a joke. Left us with a menu and then just left us for nearly 20 mins. We even tried going to the bar ourselves but no staff at the bar!

Dinner....well this was truly disappointing. Took an age to bring the starter, then waited 40 mins for mains to arrive. We both had steaks that looked like they belonged at a hungry horse and I sent mine back as they over cooked it. The second one not much better but I was so hungry and annoyed by this point I just needed to eat!

No-one checked us at the table after my dinner was returned to the kitchen, nor did anyone check if the dinner was acceptable, or offer us any other drinks whilst we sat there. Poor.

Tv in room needed to be sent back to the 80’s along with the available channels.

Basic room & tired bathroom.

We’ve been lucky enough to have had numerous 5* stays and dinners and this was no where near what we expected for the £300 we paid to stay, aside of the £120 for over-cooked steaks and a drink each.

I wish we had read reviews before we came here.

Anyone looking to stay in Bath would be much better to stay at one of the boutique style hotels in town for a similar price.

User

It is listed as a 5 star hotel but unfortunately, a 5 star it is not. Expectations were high. If it were listed as a 3 star, I’d be more impressed.

The staff struggle to do their best but the place is woefully mismanaged.

User

Great location amazing building and that’s where it ends. Tired shabby and in need of renovation. That’s just the staff. The building is the same.

Save your money and go elsewhere. Why?

1. Arrived to be given a hotel room which was clearly not what we had paid for. After much huffing we were finally moved to the right room. Not cool to rip off your customers.

2. Went to bar for much needed drink to find they were out of mixers and Ice. Underestimated a wedding party that day so were under stocked for the rest of us.

3. A warm gin later and a walk in the lovely grounds time for food. Ignored by waiters for 20 mins then had to wait 20 Mins to find they had not placed the order.

4. So on to breakfast. Shambles beyond faulty towers. As we sat there in disbelief we listened into no less than 4 formal complaints!

Were to start. Long queues as only one person on the door, who then took initial order and made up tables so waiting time was huge

Ordered 2 omelettes, coffee and toast. Coffee and toast arrived after 40 mins and no less than 5 chases.

Omelettes took 65 mins to arrive. We were told they were coming no less than 10 times.

Food was ok but not great and certainly not worth the wait. Worse was the colour of the hot water we were given to go with our lemon. It looked as if someone had bathed in it first. (Pictures available)

Great example of how to run a process without understanding the fundamentals of good customer service.

As I sit here writing this note, 30 minutes after the omelette arrived, still no on has come to ask me how it was, to offer an apology or to enquiry if I may like anything else. So far from 5 star it is not even in the same constellation.

Lots of passing apologies but nothing genuine or offer of compensation. Not a return destination! Avoid like the plague.

User

Would have to say was so disappointed this time with our stay restaurant meal was so poor had to wait to be seated - although no one in front of us - booking was not in system although we had called and checked and confirmed it was - service was so poor had to ask 3 times over 40 mins to get a jug of water - serloin steak was so tough knife nor teeth could get through it - 2nd glass of champagne ordered before meal didn’t arrive until after meal had been sent away - waiter did not understand that I wanted another glass of pink Moët, simple request you would think ! was a total shambles especially as this was a celebration meal ! But put this all behind and thought we would use the spa on the Sunday - oh this was even more of a disappointment - steam rooms and sauna cold as they had not been switched on early enough ( spa opens at 7am and we went to steam room 8.30 was so cold as were both saunas at least pool was warm - couldn’t complain at checkout as so busy ended up just doing the fast check out posted under room door - grounds need a good tidy and the fountain at the front has weeds hanging down from this - overall a total disappointment - not sure we would stay here again think s premier inn would be better - how can you be 5 star - I’m sure I won’t receive a reply but save your money and go somewhere else

User

Really disappointing stay in January. Whilst we were there we saw numerous people complaining about being given wrong room keys. They messed up our rooms, maintenance issues in the rooms, long waits at reception, staff not knowing what they are doing. The worst part as we had booked for spa and treatments, treatments felt rushed, relaxation room had to ask 3 people for teas that should be in there. Spa area and changing rooms packed, spent only 30 mins in there. So many things went wrong with our stay considering how much you pay for stays in these hotels! We had bought as a present too so really not the relaxing treat we had planned for my sister!

User

Just awful – Don’t stay here!

As unfortunate as it is, I received one of the worst expiries at the McDonald Bath spa hotel – the hotel itself is beautiful but the room was dirty.

I tried call recaption and the concierge multiple times with no answer, only when called from my privet cell, to make ‘new booking’ someone answered immediately.

I asked for cutlery to be sent to my room and after waiting an hour and a half, I went to reception to request it again. The receptionist has just handed me the stuff that I requested and I had to carry it to the room myself.

I have many more complaints but the worst one is a detail that you should really pay attention to.

When I checked in I was requested by the receptionist to hold £75 – which is going to be released automatically when I check-out. It has been a month since my stay and I have yet to receive my money back.

Please be aware of that when booking because to be honest, after speaking to everyone I could and been transferred from one person to the other I am not sure I am going to ever receive my money back.
