Callout this morning to another stuck 4x4 in the Bay.
I think it’s widely excepted that unless you know the Bay like the back of your hand, ( and even then !) it’s no place for any road vehicle. It changes yard by yard, and once your stuck your not coming out, without some seriously specialist equipment.
This mornings wannabe amphibious sanyong driver is lucky to have his vehicle back in one piece, as the tide had been and gone, but this could have been a very different sto...ry.
Should we consider billing people for incidents like this ?
I’m sure most insurance company’s would be quite reluctant to pay out for a total loss, and do the owners realise this ?
Do you work for an insurance company, if so let us know how they view this type of loss off the highway
Your thoughts
Well done team👍

When the design engineers at BV Hagglund built the first BV 206 I’m quite sure they never thought that this agile amphibious troop carrying vehicle could ever be developed further, as it was just perfect. But with the greatest respect they were wrong.
November will see the start of a hagglund refurbishment which will extend the life of our oldest Hagg by another twenty years, but that’s not all.
BSAR are working with a German Company Helgeth Engineering and are about to s...tart the fitment of the Very first 2.2 NGR kit in the UK, which is simply ground breaking.
We will keep you updated as the referb takes shape, but here’s a few snips of the work which has gone into the preparation to date.

In the early part of 2018 BSAR were asked to help the people of Alston ( Cumbria’s highest town)they, like the people of Millom and Bootle in ( 2013) had been trapped by the snow for several days, and had no food or prescription medicines
BSAR are well equipped for dealing with deep snow, as our Fleet of four Hagglunds will go most places, however this year we found that even our incredible Hagglunds were at risk of huge snow drifts turning us on our side, and perhaps makin...g us the casualty’s.
So we have invested in two snow blades, and in our own workshops got to work on them, making them fit our Hagglunds lifting and turning to move the deepest snow from our path.
If we are called upon this winter, we are safer and have more capabilities than ever before, and can most importantly get through to those people cut off and provide food and medical supplies.
Thanks to all the team who have helped with the fabrication on this project, one down one to go.
Please support us, as you never know when you may need us. Visit our two fantastic shops in Milnthorpe and Grange to support us . If you have furniture, we can take it, contact Abi our manager and she will arrange collection.

Popped into our two Charity Shops today, in Grange and Milnthorpe.
They were immensely busy and our fantastic staff and volunteers were working really hard, raising funds for our great rescue team. Thanks to all the shop teams, from all of us on the Operational Team, you all do an amazing job.
Why BSAR
... Bay Search and Rescue is one of the most diverse rescue teams in the Country, and whilst we are a Nationally Registered Defra Flood Rescue Team, help begins at home.
In Storm Desmond we worked tirelessly in Kendal and right across the South Lakes, alongside all the Statutory Services and Mountain Rescue Teams, before being asked to assist in Lancashire, in Croston and St Michael’s on Wyre. This year we delivered Medicine’s and food parcels to our fellow Cumbrians trapped in their own homes for days by freak snowfall at Alston .
We want to be able to repeat that level of assistance if needed this winter and every winter, right here at home.
To do that we don’t just need your fantastic donations, we need a little bit of your time too. If you we’re even contemplating devoting a few hours a week to volunteer in your local community, then we are a team who turn your time into real rescues and direct assistance to those exposed to real risk and danger.
If you can help us, please call in at Grange or Milnthorpe charity shops or email abigail@baysearchandrescue.org.uk we would love to here from you.

What a fantastic Westmorland County Show yesterday.
Thanks to all the team and volunteers who worked hard setting up the stand, and wow it was worth it, not only best non agricultural stand but best stand of the entire show .
We put on a live demonstration of Large Animal Rescue ( for kids of all ages) with our very own thoroughbred stallion 😂 . It hadn’t been rehearsed and I think the pictures of the front and rear of the horse in preparation tell all.
... Thanks to all our supporters and all the great people we spoke to during the day.
And finally thanks to the @ Westmorland County Show & Agricultural Society And Vantage Motor Group for all their continued support.

Fantastic open day yesterday at BSAR HQ in Flookburgh.
Thanks to all our lovely supporters who made purposeful journeys to come and chat to the operational team, and the small army of volunteers who work so hard in our shops at Milnthorpe and Grange.
It’s great to share some of our vast experiences with our supporters, and also to let the rescuers of tomorrow have a sit on some pretty unique life saving vehicles.
... Thanks to the operational team for all the hard work yesterday, not to mention Aria, who took tours of her own and provided refreshments for all.
Come and see the team at the Westmoreland County Show on the 13th of September at Crooklands. It’s an incredible day out.

All our operational team undertook this training as part of their Rescue 3 International SwiftWater and Flood Rescue Technician course.

A short clip from training last Sunday near Arnside, our SFRBOs (SwiftWater and Flood Rescue Boat Operators) practicing a mobile friction lock allowing for transportation of crew, amongst other things.
As volunteers, with full time jobs, we practice as much as we can, when we can, ever prepared for our next call. But we can’t do it without you! If you’d like to volunteer with us or donate, please don’t hesitate to get into contact, we’d love to hear from you!

Bay Search and Rescue were called by British Divers Marine Life Rescue last night, to recover a very ill seal pup, from the Bay.
The pup was very young quite unwell so was transported to the nearest appropriate Vets in the care of Emily a BDMLR Medic, but despite everyone’s efforts it wasn’t meant to be and the pup didn’t make it through the night.
It’s a sad story we know, but there are plenty of Marine Mammals who have been rescued by BSAR and BDMLR and have flourished an...d been released back into the sea and reunited with their families.
Please support our two organisations, so we can continue to provide this service.
Shop with us in our charity shops in Grange and Milnthorpe, make a donation, or come and work with us in our shops.

Wow that’s been a busy few weeks.
Today complete’s the recertification for our boat operators, with Ivan Mark and myself completing the course.
BSAR now boasts a Fantastic line up of Eleven RESCUE 3 Swift Water Rescue Technicians, and Ten RESCUE 3 Swift Water Rescue Flood Boat Operators. ... And one RESCUE 3 SRT Instructor
This year has been a whirlwind of incidents, starting with the severe snows in the North of the County ( Alston) and the delivery of medicines and food,to those cut off for days. To the Wildfire’s near Manchester and WinterHill, where we delivered a hundred thousand litres of water to waiting firefighters from all over the Country.
We train hard and prepare our equipment and specialist vehicles to assist those right on our doorstep and right across Cumbria and Lancashire, and we’re very proud to be a National asset on the DEFRA Register.
Thanks to all our Volunteers in our shops, and our great staff, and thanks to the dedication of the operational team who put so much into this incredible organisation.

A superb full on day ( the second of three), in and out of the fast moving waters of the Menai in Wales
It’s SFRBO flood boat re certifications for three of the BSAR team ( inc the S/O) , delivered by Rescue 3 as always.
Rescue 3 deliver the highest standards of Flood and White Water Rescue Training in Europe, and BSAR benefit from that high impact delivery, keeping us safe, and those who we rescue safe .
... Here is a short clip of the famous Menai Bridge and the waters beneath, and the skills required to carry out a friction lock against the bridge ( or a building during a flood maybe)
Thanks to everyone who supports BSAR for making it possible, and to our team for undertaking this training as it’s not easy !
