Be That Change

About Be That Change

Be That Change (BTC) was established in 2020, not only in response to the murder of George Floyd in the USA but following the lack of understanding locally as to why this was ‘such a big deal' and the raft of racism that was witnessed and experienced on social media, in groups that are identified as community forums and platforms. Since forming, BTC has established a dedicated online platform to provide resources and information to those who wish to find out more, to support all members of the Waltham Forest community to become anti-racist and to start the often-uncomfortable conversation about race and why it is important. For meaningful change to happen allyship is equally as important as advocacy of the lived experience of Black people who live, work and enjoy Waltham Forest. BTC continue to meet with officers of Waltham Forest Council, local Councillors, MP's and relevant government officials to: • discuss how BTC can influence change at all levels, • to understand what plans are being put in place to ensure the borough is doing better and being better; and• to work together to ensure a more equitable experience for its Black citizens. BTC as a voluntary grassroots community group remains apolitical, however meaningful change will only happen by holding people, their representatives, the local authority and ultimately the Government to account.
