Many of our learners are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET), at risk of becoming NEET or are unable to attend regular lessons or courses as they are carers or lone parents. Many are in or have left local authority care and high percentages are at risk of engagement with gun and knife crime. 272 former BTY students have gone on to higher education and /or employment in 2010 through an ESF programme, while an additional 250 young people were offered mentoring and were trained in performing and creative arts and employability skills in partnership with the Deptford Challenge Trust 2007-11. We have also worked with over 300 young people on a programme of diversionary activities including showcase work, in conjunction with Sound Connections, and helped 75 young people find work opportunities through the Future Jobs Fund (FJF). We also hold annual award ceremonies to celebrate the achievements of participants and to inspire other young people within the community.

Be Totally You provides people in the community with the space and environment to be creative and express themselves. We have delivered many successful ventures with workshops and sessions at The Albany Theatre, Deptford, the Priory School Orpington and Street Dance sessions in Mottingham Bromley. Our dance and theatre performances have taken place on Lewisham’s Peoples Day, The Albany and the British Library’s Festival of Music. Our October performance, 'Billy and the Beast', brought together Prendergast School pupils and disadvantaged young people. Public performances give participants a sense of achievement and focus.

Many children and young people are also engaged in our positive activities programmes, which are run 3 times a week on average and have a significant communal impact. These activities promote personal growth, better behaviour, improve self- esteem and provide alternatives to the high levels of street crime in the deprived areas where we work. Activities include creative and performing arts programmes; street dance, acting and singing, as well as afterschool, weekend and summer camp activities; in August 2010 at Meadows Green and Shroffold Green, we engaged hundreds of children in activities as diverse as circus magic, Brazilian soccer and aerosol art workshops.

We provide fun, well-structured workshops, designed to help young people excel in engaging activities. All sessions are well planned with a stringent, weekly evaluation session, which records each workshop’s progress and to help target and solve any challenges. We are particularly keen on developing leadership and other employability skills in our learners. Our workshop leaders and facilitators are known for their professional skills and are an integral part of the team.
