Bempton Supper Club

About Bempton Supper Club

We're open on the first Saturday of every month for you to come and eat the best of Yorkshire's finest food.

Bempton Supper Club Description

Chris and Polly’s idea is to welcome people into their home who love eating well prepared, freshly sourced, local (but only where it’s the best), seasonal and flavourful food. As Chris loves cooking with these kinds of ingredients, it seems a good way to celebrate and share the magnificent produce of our region with people who will appreciate it. Our beef is Dexter Beef raised by Penny from Easingwold, Pork is Gloucester Old Spot and Lamb is Berrichon du Cher both raised by Elaine from Seamer, Roe Deer from the Downe Estates by Scarborough, supplied by Elaine. Fish and Seafood are at their freshest and supplied by Andrew and Karen from Ocean’s Rewards in Bridlington. All ingredients will focus on quality, taste and freshness, so from time to time there will be “guest” appearances from blood oranges, clementines, passion fruits and delicious stuff we just can’t grow or get here! This is no reason to deprive you of their delicious flavours!
So on the first Saturday evening of every month, starting on Saturday 3rd August, Bempton Supper Club is open for business. We have a different set menu every month which we publish in advance (the first seven months can be seen on Facebook) and you have to book a table and make your choices in advance at the time of booking. We have a maximum of 12 covers so that we can concentrate on the quality of the food and the service and you can book tables for one person to twelve people (providing we have the availability). This means that there will often be less than 12 people here, but that’s fine! ! You or your group will always have your own tables for the whole evening. Tables will be allocated on a first come first served basis, so if you’re keen, let us know as soon as you can. If you’re reading this, it means we’re taking bookings!
We’re hoping to use different venues in the house, depending on the weather and we may be hosting you in our Front Room, the Conservatory or even in the Summerhouse! Our garden is very dear to us and we open for the National Garden Scheme (although we are taking a year out this year to see if we can get the Supper Club up and running), so if the weather is really really great, you may even be eating outdoors (or at least taking aperitifs in the garden! ).
There are seven courses including an aperitif, surprise amuse-bouche, starter, main course, cheeses, dessert and tea or coffee, and as much water as you can drink. We’re sure you’ll manage as we want you to have room for desserts! All of this comes with homemade bread and flavoured butter. Of course, you can skip any part of the set menu, have two starters instead of starter and main, or even just seven desserts (no, that would be too much! ). EVERYTHING is cooked from scratch, so we can amend dishes to suit you if you have particular dislikes or allergies. Just ask when you talk to us. If you love your tea, you’ll be in tea heaven as we are just as passionate about our tea as we are about our food. We have selections from all around the world supplied by Northern Tea Merchants in Chesterfield.
So, back to the food. The aperitif will be something sparkly and the surprise amuse bouche will get your juices ready for what’s to come. There will be a choice of two starters, two mains and two desserts and these will reflect what’s best in Yorkshire each month or what’s best from elsewhere. We also hope to bring the garden to your plate too, with something grown by Polly from the garden featuring on every month’s menu. This could be from the potatoes served with your main course, to the lemon verbena served as flavouring to your pannacotta or the Jerusalem Artichokes in your soup. Our cheeses will be regional and predominantly British, but again, we want to make sure you can sample many of the delicious cheeses from Europe.
Of course, we can’t sell you any of this because we’re not a restaurant, so we will ask for a voluntary contribution of at least £30 per person to cover our costs. We don’t take cards through, just cash! If you like it a lot, you can contribute more – anything above £30 will go to the National Garden Scheme Charities (including Macmillan and Marie Curie). We’ll also have featured wines in different price brackets which you can swap for a bottle of your own, or you can just bring and drink your own!
If you use Facebook, we have a page there – we’d like you to like us and you can see all our menus, recipes and information about our suppliers there. You can read more on www. facebook.com/bemptonsupperclub. Of course, if you are not Facebook orientated, you can become one of our “friends” by letting us know that you’d like to receive regular news from us as well as the menus, recipes and information that we have on our Facebook page. Just email us on bemptonsupperclub@hotmail. co. uk or even talk to us by ringing 01262 851404.
We hope that you’ll like what we do and that you’ll come to see us more than once.
