About Ben Cohen Osteopathy

At Ben Cohen Osteopathy, we provide patients with an understanding of the cause of their pain, giving appropriate treatment and advice where necessary.

Ben Cohen Osteopathy Description

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It works with the structure and function of the body, and is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together.

To an osteopath, for your body to work well, its structure must also work well. So osteopaths work to restore your body to a state of balance, where possible without the use of drugs or surgery. Osteopaths use touch, physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, and to help your body’s own healing mechanisms. They may also provide advice on posture and exercise to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms recurring. (General Osteopathic Council, 2014)

At Ben Cohen Osteopathy, we aim to provide our patients with an understanding of the cause of their pain, provide appropriate treatment where necessary, and give exercise and postural advice for their problem.

We understand that every patient's problem is unique, which is why we create a tailor-made management plan to help prevent future episodes of this problem recurring.

Having studied for 4 years to achieve a Masters Degree in Osteopathic Medicine, principal Osteopath Ben Cohen is also qualified in dry needling (often referred to as acupuncture). Dry needling is used for the treatment of chronic pain and dysfunction due to trigger points, tension areas and muscle spasm.

Dry needling acts via the release of endorphins but also achieves pain relief and improved function by de-activating active trigger points.

An Osteopaths aim is to treat the cause of a problem, not just the symptoms.
