Here's a great story from one of our opticians, Elizabeth Yeowart who, at the weekend, was at one of the biggest optical shows around - 100% Optical.
The team from Benjamins was there en-mass looking at new frame styles to bring back to Skipton for 2020, including the new SEA2SEE range made from recycled fishing nets reclaimed from the ocean. Here Lizzie is wearing one of those frames, now in stock at Benjamins. Have a good read as she gives us an insight to what happens behind the scenes.

We are looking for a dynamic and bright trainee to join our award-winning team and become our next brilliant Dispensing Optician.
Are you just starting out on your career path or looking to retrain? Are you hard-working, enthusiastic and able to work well in a team? Do you have a minimum of five GCSEs Grade C or above, including Maths, English, Science?
... As a Dispensing Optician you will take the prescription given by one of our Optometrists and advise the patient on the choices of frames and lenses available to them. You will then look after the patient with making sure they get the right care, service and products. Your primary role will be the visual comfort of the patient. It is very much a patient focussed role so good people skills are essential, offering advice, carrying out repairs and adjustments.
In training, youŌĆÖll learn about the physiology and anatomy of the eye and how it works with the body; youŌĆÖll find out about the different lens technologies and be dealing with some very high end brands. We are very proud of our practice and the services we offer our patients and you will be taught using the very latest and up to date optical equipment the likes of which you wonŌĆÖt find in many other practices. Training will be provided both in practice and on block release at the beautiful Godmersham Hall in Kent with all fees paid by us. You will become clinically minded and commercially aware and after three years you will qualify as a Dispensing Optician and elevated to the salary this qualification commands.

Frying tonight? It looks like our Izzy has changed careers and is serving up cod and chips - but no, this is our trainee Dispensing Optician learning how lenses are manufactured in our lab and here, how tints and coatings are applied.
Shame, as mouths were watering at the thought of a nice take away! Instead, we now have another member of our team armed with the knowledge to dispense the right lenses, tints and coatings for each patient.
