Both are available to take away now in our Totnes and Exeter stores - perfect if you want a satisfying, healthy lunch on the go. For those of you who prefer Saturday lunches to be a more languorous, sociable affair, you can also find them at our cafes in Staverton & Yealmpton. Great to have Dave from Forest Fungi in store at Staverton today. He's still available to chat to you about their produce, from meaty King Oysters, to the eerily beautiful pink, yellow and grey oyster mushrooms and the ever popular shiitake. He's also full of recipe ideas so if you're planning a funghi based supper, come and pick his brains.

User

Are you coming along to our Meet The Supplier event at Staverton tomorrow? From 10.30am, you'll have the chance to meet with and chat to the fabulous folks from Dawlish based Forest Funghi. They are a small, family run business specialising in gourmet mushrooms. You can find a variety of their fresh and dried produce in our store. To get yourself in the mood, why not head over to our website for more ideas on mushroom based suppers, including this flavoursome, satisfying Sticky Shiitake dish https://bensfarmshop.co.uk/recipe/sticky- shiitake-mushrooms/

In our opinion,no picnic is complete without a little bit of bread. From a good crusty roll or french stick to a soft wholemeal loaf that's begging to be slathered in butter (or whatever your spread of choice) we've got a great selection of organic and locally made loaves for you to choose from.

We had a surprise visitor to our Staverton shop yesterday - Boris and his family own La Montesina orange groves in Valencia and supply our oranges throughout the winter months so it was a delight to meet him! If you haven't tried La Montesina's organic oranges yet, we would highly recommend them for their balance of sweetness and acidity, making them perfect for eating and juicing. From ordering on a Monday, they are picked and packed and arrive with us on a Wednesday so they really are exceptionally fresh. Keep an eye out for them from late October.

Tasty, healthy and freshly made in our kitchen... Our salads are available to takeaway (in plant based vegware containers) in Exeter and now Totnes, as well as our cafes and deli counters. Perfect for lunch on the go and picnics but equally great to grab on your way home for a delicious light supper.

Looking for something different to tickle your taste buds this weekend? Why not give goat's milk a try? High in calcium, low in cholesterol and more effective at absorbing nutrients than cow's milk, it's brilliant for your skin and utterly delicious. As if you needed any more convincing... our Yealmpton Shop will be holding a tasting session this Sunday between 10am and 12pm where you will be able to try Dartington Dairy's fabulous range of goat's milk ice cream, yoghurts and kefirs. Find them just off the A379 at Yealmpton PL8 2LT. See you there!

We're trialling some new, sturdier bags in our stores. We hope that they'll be a more durable alternative for carrying bulky fruits and vegetables than our current bags. The plan is to use them as an alternative to plastic for our self serve cereals, pulses, rice etc. Please do let us know what you think of them by commenting below or talking to any of our staff members. They are available in three different sizes and are currently only available in our Staverton and Yealmpton shops.

The leek and the chorizo went to sea in a beautiful ciabatta boat, They’d plenty of cheddar but when they had finished that, they had to eat each other ... If you're looking for some inspiration for a delicious Friday night supper or quick weekend lunch, then look no further than the Riverford Rarebit!
Ex Field Kitchen chef, Jane Baxter, and Ben came up with the Riverford Rarebit years ago. We probably should rename it now but we’ve always been suckers for alliterations and,... let’s face it, Ben’s Farm Shop Rarebit doesn’t really work.
To feed four as a light dish – you’ll need;
1 ciabatta stick 1 tbsp olive oil 4 leeks 3 skinless chorizo sausages. 250g grated Keen’s Cheddar 1 tsp of mustard powder 1 egg 2 tbsp crème fraiche or double cream 1 tbsp grated parmesan
Wash and chop the leeks and finely dice the chorizo. Heat the oil in a lidded pan and sauté the leeks and chorizo over a low heat until cooked and beginning to caramelize. Remove from the heat. Meanwhile cut the ciabatta down the middle and cut/scrape/scoop out about a third of the crumb. Switch on the oven to 180degC and, as it warms up, dry out the crumb. Add the cheddar, egg, cream, mustard and seasoning to the chorizo and leek mixture. Mix and spread evenly on the ciabatta. Blitz the crumb with the parmesan and sprinkle top. Put the ciabatta on a baking tray and cook in the oven for 10-15 minutes. Finish off under the grill until the crumbs begin to brown and it all looks nice and toasty.
See how creative you can be with your presentation...feel free to send us your pictures!

They think it's all over..it is now! At least it is for our organic strawberries & raspberries, which have sold out in record time. We still have plenty of delicious products in stock to help get you through the next nail biting few matches.

Ben's Wimbledon / World Cup Special Organic Strawberries and Raspberries – 99p We’re out of one and still in the other but you can always put your berries in a pint glass and throw them in the air when we score a goal. And if we don’t - just eat them.

Sweetpeas are one of the joys of summer ... we’ve lovely local blooms in the shop at Staverton today ...

Our first street food BBQ at the Exeter shop highlighted the whopper veg burger sized hole in the BFS product portfolio. So Ben’s come up with a broad bean and spinach one, with a dukkah and polenta coating that is hopefully going to have its debut next weekend in Exeter. Anyone got any good tips/tricks/recipe’s for making the perfect meat-free burger?

Tuesday 19th June 4.30-6.30pm @ Ben's Wine and Tapas. We’re hosting an impromptu, free tasting of the wines of Bodegas Vegalfaro from La Plana de Requena-Utiel, inland from Valencia. They've 3,000 years of wine making behind them, so they know a thing or two. Vegalfaro are making an exciting range of styles based on a blend of the tradition and modern practises. The wines are 100% organic and many are aged in clay amphorae. They also make some stunning Cava. Look at http://vegalfaro.com/en/ for more information. We don’t sell any of their wines at the moment so please come, try – and tell us whether we should be.

Wake up and smell the dry cured bacon ... celebrate organic food with us in Exeter tomorrow. It's not really hard to discover this place. But, we did so by accident. You won't find it listed on the main Riverford Organics website (strangely).

They do have their own site though and if you're looking for a cuppa and a cake amongst the plethora of other wonderful organic and freshly made produce. Then this is the place.

Plenty of parking, an indoor and outdoor seating area and a varied menu. And that's without the exploration of the shop.

It's not just the fruit and veg (worth it if it was) but also the meat, wine, bread and other goods. Enough to keep you busy for an hour or so.

Sit down and enjoy the café. Ask loads of questions as everyone understands the provenance of whatever it is you're buying.

If you want an indulgent brownie (served hot with their own clotted cream). This is the place to get it.

A great find for the shop but the cafe is wonderful too. The icing on the cake is a passionate and knowledgeable team who make it an experience more than a chore.

Had our first home delivery yesterday. Really happy with the quality of my selections made. Just wish it wasn't so expensive. I will definitely order again but just not as often as I would like.

BEST leek and potato soup I have ever tasted! I know it's a simple one but it was so scrummy! Highly recommend! I'll be coming back to try the veggie breakfast as that looks too good to miss!

User

Great lovely shop with loads of local fresh food at reasonable prices. Visit every time we are in the area.

Yealmpton shop and cafe- Been coming here for years! Back when it was Riverford it was so much more friendly and relaxed. Went at the weekend, food was nice but certain members of staff were rude to me over my puppy. E mailed a complaint and was basically given the no dogs rule!! After 2 members of staff said it was fine while I chose my lunch. I was abruptly told to ‘get my dog out the shop’ 8 of us dined it wasn’t cheap! Doubt I will return which is a huge shame.

User

Always been a regular at the shop, but seems as if the suppliers may have changed recently....stock is different and few faves missing today.....and to be told they don't serve either ploughmans in the cafe anymore because the place is not vegan but ''trying to be friendly'' is a bit much, when it's still possible to buy cheese and meat on site.... .. AND they still use plastic straws. Unlikely that I'll continue to be the regular I used to be...a shame, but with so much great choice localy, going elsewehere is no hardship.
